Lisedi
"Fucking dumbass," Aunt Carol growled at Shamar.
Shamar was yet another one that I was out there to catch. He tried to hide from us. He tried giving us a hard time. He even tried fighting my cousins. And Aunt Carol was not happy about that at all.
"Lisedi, take him in your car," my uncle called to me.
I nodded, grabbing Shamar. "Let's check your pockets, eh?"
He rolled his eyes.
I took him to my car, leaning him against it. I patted him down, feeling something in his pockets. I snatched it out before shaking my head. "Fucking cocaine, Shamar?"
"Lisedi-"
"It's Scott to you," I glared at him, "And honestly I don't care what you had to say. I was hoping you were looking to do better. I guess not," I opened the backseat door, throwing him in. I opened the drivers door, grabbing a bottle of Coca Cola that I was drinking earlier. Just then my phone that was on the dashboard, vibrated.
Aubrey: Missing you already. Be safe.
I smiled, before turning my attention back to the small baggy of crack cocaine in my hands. I threw it on the floor, stepping on it, before pouring the Coca Cola on it, absolutely destroying the crack.
I sat back into the car, driving off.
"What did you do?" Shamar asked from the back.
"I got rid of it to save your ass," I said, "I'd rather you go back in and get your dates straight with the court than pick up a felony possession charge and kick it behind bars for twenty five years. You're too young for that."
"Thank you. I appreciate that."
"Show me by showing up to your court dates. And stop running in the streets with that shit on you."
Yeah, I was a tough ass when it came to this job. But just as Aunt Carol taught me how to be no nonsense with these people, Uncle Jet always embedded in us the phrase:
Where mercy is shown mercy is given
He was young. 24 years old. Too much life ahead of him for that shit.
"This is your wake up call, Shamar. You either answer it now, or pay for it for the rest of your life."
He silently hung his head.
"Yes Ms. Scott. I got you."
"Lisedi!" Aunt Carol blared my name over the radio.
"Yes?"
"He got lucky. If he would've laid a finger on my sons going to jail would be the last of his worries."
I chuckled at the fiestyness oozing through. She meant everything she said. I could hear it in her voice.
"10-4 Aunt Carol. He heard you loud and clear."
Lisedi: Just picked him up. Head back shortly!
I was super anxious to get back to Aubrey and pick up where we had left off the last night on into the morning.
When we arrived, I grabbed the paperwork from Cameron and went inside to report a discharge of surety. On his way to be processed, Shamar thanked me and made a promise that we wouldn't have to meet under these conditions ever again.
Since we had to wake up so early for this pick up, Uncle Jet gave us until noon to come in the office for work.
The boys were happy to go back to their place and go back to sleep. They figured my smile was for the same thing. Au contraire. I'll be keeping this all to myself for now though. The last thing I needed was those three performing an interrogation on a guy I was interested in. They haven't seen me entertain one in awhile, so I knew if given the opportunity they wouldn't hold back. Even though I was only a year younger than them, in their eyes I was still their baby cousin.
