"Here you go baby doll. White hot chocolate and whip creme always makes me feel better."

Tati walked in her bedroom with a pink mug in each hand. I sat on her bed, where I had been curled up ever since I got out of the shower. As soon as I left work, I came here. I was serious about not going back to that house; not after the way Aubrey had handled himself.

"Don't let him get you down," she handed me a mug and patted my leg, "he was totally out of line, I cannot deal with him. So disrespectful."

"But no, let him tell it and I'm the rude, disrespectful one for going to a bar to hang out with my cousins," I explained, "so basically he was upset because he didn't like the place I was at, I didn't answer his phone calls meaning I was cheating, because I'm going back to work and he doesn't want me to and now I supposedly talk to him like he's a child."

"So that made him go out to a strip club all fucking night?!"

"And mind you I was home most of the day after I got my IUD taken out for his stupid ass. His friends had to tell me where he was. I mean, I went to talk to my uncle but that was it. I came home had dinner ready and everything. He never showed. So by the time he decided to come home I was gone."

"I hate to say this, but Daddy Warbucks is sounding very controlling and possessive," she shook her head, "and damn I know you guys are married, but a bitch can't get out the house and live without somebody reporting back to him about you...doing nothing basically? Damn that sucks."

"One thing Aubrey is going to learn is that he doesn't control me," I said, "I don't care if he's the richest man in the world. If I want to work then I'll do just that. The art studio thing was his idea and while it was a sweet gesture I don't want to be subjected to just that. Bail bonds is a family business. Besides Gissy, they're all the family I have blood wise. Mom and dad don't care for me. My Uncle and Aunt are everything. They've done so much for me."

"I understand girl," she nodded, "if there's anything I've learned about you through the course of this friendship it's that you don't do very well with people telling you what to do and that's across the board."

"That other shit he said is still bothering me though. That whole maybe I did fuck a stripper last night...bitches danced all on me and treated me like a king unlike you," I batted back the tears that wanted to fight through, "I couldn't believe he said that."

"It's not an excuse but maybe it was all that specialized weed talking. You know they smoke that crazy shit...but you're better than me. I would've punched him for that."

"He was lying down, busting him upside the head with this bag was the best I could do."

"Well, I'm sorry that happened mamma," she stroked my hair, "you can stay here as long as you want."

"Thank you, Tati."

"What did my girl Joseline say? Let a bitch go to work. If you scared go to church."

I laughed when she started dancing and getting into it. She loved her some Joseline Hernandez.

"There's my smiling girl," she pinched my cheek, "he'll realize how stupid he's being and come running back in no time. They always do. He's probably blowing your phone up as we speak."

"I haven't even looked at it since I've gotten here," I reached down and dug around in my backpack until I found it.
