As soon as I saw Amy's text I ran out of the house and started to run to the farm. But when I got there the place was completely deserted. The for sale sign now had a sold sticker stuck in the centre of it. The rain started to get heavier and heavier until I was completely drenched. I imagined Amy's car driving off down the road where I was now stood.

I was too late. I stood still in silence as I imagined Amy climbing over the gate just one last time. All the times I had woken up early so that I could walk with her to school. All the times I had waited for her at this very spot were now nothing but the past. My heart sank and it felt as if I had been punched in the stomach.

I got my phone out and texted Amy:
I'm sorry I let you down.

I stood there almost as if I was waiting for her car to come round the corner and Amy would run into my arms. But the car didn't come round the corner, and Amy didn't come running into my arms. Then as I started walking back home I felt my eyes fill with tears and then run down my face.
