*Harry's POV

I woke in the morning, earlier than usual, I stayed in bed until I remembered what day it was. It's Christmas!

I got up silently and walked over to Hermione's ''room'' and saw that she was still asleep. It was rare for me to wake up before her so, of course, I took advantage of it. I got closer to her bed, leaned over it. Once my mouth was inches away from her ear I yelled - GOOD MORNING HERMIONE!

She jolted awake and rolled over to the side opposite from where I was standing. She fell of the bed, rolled up in her sheets, covered from head to toe.

- HARRY JAMES POTTER! - she yelled, although it wasn't as loud as she wanted due to the fact that she had several layers of cloth covering her face. She took the sheets off of her face yelled again - You pull one of those of one more time and you'll seriously regret it!

- Merry Christmas to you too - he struggled to say between laughs.

- Merry Christmas Harry - she responded, calmer.

It took a bit but I finally managed to help her free herself from the sheets and stand up. After that, we quickly had breakfast, both curious towards what we had received.

Both of us got a sweater from Mrs. Weasley and some homemade cookies, the usual. Hermione's parents sent us both a framed picture of me, her and Ron at the end of our first year. It was a normal muggle picture but it was a great reminder of a time where things were simpler. Ron and Ginny didn't send us anything, as expected. We had started reconciling with Ron but it was still very recent. George sent me Puking Pastils (A/N: If that's not the way it's written please tell me) and a remembral although the main present were the sweats since the remembral exploded in smoke the moment I touched it. I heard Hermione giggle a bit because of this. She had gotten a book marker that said ''I'm almost done, I swear!'' on the top but on the bottom, the part that was usually covered you could read ''With this one''. Both of us laughed because it was so appropriate that he would give something like that to Hermione.

I turned towards her gift. It was a book about different ways to care for a broom - You need it... - she said. It was true, since the war I became sloppy when it came to cleaning my broom and stuff like that. There was also a locket with a picture inside. It was the picture I had of my parents, the one I usually kept on my bedside table - You like that picture so much I figured you should be able to take it anywhere you like. - she said.

She then started to open my presents. Two books, one was called ''Extreme Spells and Incantations'' - I heard that that book is more advanced than any of our school books and I figured you would like the challenge. The other book was called ''Muggles' magic'' - It's about different theories on how muggles are able to have magical children. I figured you would like it seeing as you are muggleborn.

- This is something I had thought about before and wasn't able to explain. Thanks. - she said, examining the book curiously.

I still had one more present to give her. I walked closer to her as she laid down the book to look at me. She had a necklace with a picture of her parents, one that I gently took of and laid on a table.

- Are you going to turn on the radio and ask me to dance? - she joked, referring to the time we danced last year on the hunt. I was trying to recreate that moment but for another.

- As much as I would love to I was going to show you what I had been doing the time I missed classes this week - I said making her even more curious - Now, close your eyes...

She did what I asked and I took a necklace from my pocket...

*Hermione's POV

With my eyes closed, I felt him place something around my neck and then heard him step away. - Harry! Don't you dare pulling another prank on me like this! I'm trusting you a lot right now!

- Don't worry, I'm not going to. You can open your eyes now.

And so I did. What he had placed on me was a necklace ''That explains why he took of the one I had on before''. It was made out of a silver chain and a silver heart, with an outline that stood out slightly, broken in half.

- This what you've doing for three days? It doesn't take that much time to go to the store and buy a necklace... - she said

- You're right, it doesn't. But it takes time to make it do this...

He reached inside of his shirt and pulled out a necklace just like the one hr gave me. He then held it tight and I felt mine trembling lightly. I looked at it and noticed that the outline had turned golden and the pendant seemed to be glowing with a subtle golden light.

- That's not all it does - he stated, as he started to walk towards me. Once he was within arm's reach, I felt the necklace tremble more. I looked a it once again and the outline had turned to it's original silver colour. On the other hand, now the whole middle of it was golden and it now emitted a clearly visible golden glow.

After a bit I noticed him holding his necklace by the chain and he said - Why don't you try to hold it too?

I gripped my necklace tight and I looked at his pendant. The outline had changed colour again but now it was red, the centre remaining in a gold shade. That wasn't the big surprise, now the missing side was starting to appear. In the end, the heart was complete, golden with a red outline.

- The necklace is enchanted to detect it the two parts are as close as they can be at that moment. For example, now we have to be really close for it to show the full effect, but, for instance, if we are in separate classes it is supposed to show this effect even if at that moment we are farther apart. Don' ask me how it is done, the charm was made by professor Flitwick, I just enchanted the necklaces with it. They have to be enchanted by one of the users for it to work.

I wasn't able to speak. I was completely amazed by how much effort he had put in something he made just for me. This truly was the best present anyone ever gave to me!

I had wore the locket with my parents' picture for a while now and I couldn't have asked for a better substitute.

- I love it. - I said, playing with the small golden heart for a bit before I looked at Harry and kissed him...

Author's Note

I hope I didn't complicate the gift a little to much but trust me, it'll be worth it later, remember how it works.

For now that's it. Easter break is over so I may take more time to upload new chapters but I'll give it my best so that you don't have top wait much longer. I hope you all liked this chapter, leave your opinions and suggestions in the comments and until the next chapter,
