Gleb walked through the streets of Phantasma with a look of defeat on his face. When he went to the Paris Opera House so many years ago he didn't think he would run into Christine, but when he did he knew he was in love. He knows exactly how Melodie feels. When Christine said she loved him for the first time he knew that they were meant to be. Gleb was a little disappointed that the man Melodie loved was him but he knew first hand that love can't be defeated. As Gleb walked to Eriks home he couldn't help but feel guilty, he was always so cruel to this man. But he put his feelings aside and continued to the door of his home.
Erik was sitting at his piano writing another piece for Melodie to sing when she got better. "Melodie" he whispered to himself, Melodie was always on his mind. When he would write, when he ate, and when he slept late at night. He looked out his window at the blue sky that Melodie would love. Then he saw Gleb walking to his door. "O God what does he want now?" he got up and brushed himself off and left to meet his old friend.
Gleb didn't know how to put what was wrong in terms that wouldn't hurt the man who loved his daughter, and in all honesty, Gleb didn't even want to believe it. One day Melodie was fine, happy, being how she normally was, and all of a sudden she was bruising easily, bloody noses were a regular occurrence, and the fever was what was most concerning. The words of the doctor still rang through his head. 'It's leukemia...' Gleb was shaken with worry. He didn't know how the masked man would take it. In all honesty, Gleb didn't even know how to take it. Melodie was his child and just hearing that she had cancer made his heart sink. If Gleb had let his guard down, all the Phantom would see would be Gleb's tears. Gleb walked up to his door and knocked. As the door opened he came face to face with Erik.
"What do you want Monsieur?" Erik said in a stern voice. "May I come in and talk to you."
Erik saw small tears welling in Gleb's eyes, "Monsieur?" Erik had a feeling something was wrong just when he saw the tears starting, as well as Gleb asking to come in and talk. That was certainly different. "Forgive me for not calling first." gleb said still looking at his feet. "Just tell me why you came here." Erik spoke sternly.
"I came here because of Melodie."
"What about her?" Erik spoke now concerned.
"After you took her to the hospital the doctor informed us that she has a horrible disease."
Erik sat down in the chair across from him.
"What is this Disease?"
"Leukemia" Gleb spoke letting the tears fall from his eyes.
Erik almost fainted hearing this.
"She's in pain and I can't do anything to help." Erik spoke with sadness in his eyes. Erik has never been this sad since Christine left him.
"That's exactly why I came here Monsieur."
Erik looked up from his hands.
"What do you mean?"
"Melodie requested that you come and see her. She would like to talk to you."
Erik had a look of almost disbelief in his eyes. 'She wants to see me?' he thought.
This can't be true, no one in his life has wanted to see him.
"You lie. Why do you try and trick me with such words!"
"I do not want to deceive you sir. Melodie asked to see you after she found out what her disease was."
"Leave at once! How dare you try and trick me!" Erik yelled getting up from his chair.
"Please I beg of you go visit my daughter, you are the only thing she wants!" Gleb said practically begging.
Erik looked at the picture of melodie on the side table. He loved her and now she wants to see him in her time of need. 'This is my chance to tell her how I feel.' he thought.
"If you don't and she doesn't make it through this she will never know. She will have died without someone to love and cherish her as I do with Christine," Gleb spoke, giving an ultimatum.
Erik didn't know what to say after that. All he knew was that he had to see Melodie before he lost his chance to tell the twenty year old how he felt. Erik thought he lost his heart when Christine left him but when he met Melodie it felt as though he could live again.
"Monsieur do you and Christine approve of this?"
Gleb looked back down at his feet. He knew he wanted Melodie to be happy but did he think this was a wise decision for his daughter.
"Yes because Christine believes that if you love her and cherish her with all you have then you can have her."
"Really?"
"Yes but if you hurt her then you will pay a very big price!"
"Monsieur I promise with all my heart to love her with every bone in my body and to make her as happy as she can be."
"Then what are we waiting for let's go!"
Erik grabbed his coat and him and Gleb ran back to the hospital.
