Elena's P.O.V
I jerked when I felt a slap on my back bringing me back to reality. It wasn't hard but I was still shocked at who could've done such an action. I turned around coming face to face with none other than my best friend Maddie. She gave me a grin following by grabbing me in a hug as soon as she saw a scowl on my face due to her polite way of getting my attention.
"You need to stop hitting people whenever you see them Madds", I said as I rubbed my back. It didn't hurt or anything but I had to exaggerate, it's in my blood. You know, she has this weird habit of hitting people when she meets them or when she says goodbye. And believe me when I say this, you shouldn't be around her when she laughs or you'd go home with a bruise because she keeps hitting the person closest to her when she laughs. This is my best friend for you everybody.
Madison Edwards a.k.a Maddie or as I sometimes call Madds or Dee. Blonde hair that reaches her shoulder. Dark brown eyes and an average height. She does has those typical blonde moments like Karen from Mean Girls occasionally. No hate. I'm not saying she isn't smart, if anything she is in like two of the AP classes. It's really a wonder how somebody like her is best friends with me since we're the complete opposites. She could even pass for a model.
"Nice to see you too.", she scoffed. "By the way, you know-". I let out a silent sigh as I prepared myself to listen to a 15 minute session of gossip involving everyone in this school. Who's dating who, who broke up with who or who took a shit in front of Principal Brown's office as a prank. She knows it all.
"Jewel and Alec broke up. He found her in bed with Garett." Not once did she look up from her phone while she told me this, she's that much into gossip. She kept rambling on and on about how our school's bad boy found his girlfriend, Queen Bee in bed with our school's rivals County High School's baseball captain in a party, not caring if I was even a little bit interested. I kept listening to music from one earphone that was already in my ear.
"Are you listening to me?", she stopped in the middle of her story-telling.
"You know I couldn't care less Maddie. I didn't even know they were dating in the first place!", I told her.
She sighed and mumbled something along the line 'Such social life' before she started looking at me like I was a math problem she was trying to solve.
"What?". I asked as I had started getting creeps from her stare.
"Why aren't you excited about life?"she asked.
"I'm not excited about anything before lunch break. Come on let's go." I said as I dragged her with me heading to homeroom.
"You excited about senior year? Finally months away from getting out of this hell hole." She grinned as tried to stuff her phone back in her backpack.
"I'm as excited as I was when Mom signed me up for Ballet classes." I said just loud enough for her to hear.
"But you said you hated those."she asked, confusion sketched across her face. See, I told you not the brightest. It's just adorable sometimes. I chuckled at her innocence. Just then the bell rang giving us 5 minutes to head to homeroom. Students crowded the hallway like the school was giving out free pizza or something. Some laughing, some talking and some just as excited about school starting as I was.
We reached homeroom and took seats in the middle of the room. A teacher walked in, probably our homeroom teacher who I recalled was Mr. Finn. A skinny half-bald man who seemed to wear the same clothes everyday with different colors of suspenders. I wonder what goes on in his mind when he decides to wear those. The same process of introduction took place, like everybody didn't know each other already. Come on, it's a small town with about five to six hundred people. Everybody knows everyone. He handed out our new schedules and the class started comparing it with their friends or partners. I had my third, fifth and sixth period with Maddie. Mr. Finn's voice broke through the room.
"Okay class, welcome Mr. William Ross. He just transferred here". He told us and then turned to the new kid to talk to him.
"I know introductions in front of the whole class can be awkward so I'll not make you say anything", he let out a laugh probably thinking he just cracked a Kevin Hart level joke or something. Nobody even let out a muffled chuckle. I felt bad for the man. He then turned to us; "And I hope you'll take good care of him". As if on cue the bell rang and everybody rose from their seats to head to the first period not even sparing a glance towards Mr.Finn. Mr.Finn looked around the room most likely looking for a student to assign the duty of giving the new kid a tour around this place of torment.
Me and Maddie escaped our way out of the classroom hiding from the man so he couldn't assign the boring duty to us. My eyes met with William for a few seconds, the new kid. He was handsome, I'd give him that. Brown hair, green eyes and a smile that could melt a person. What the hell Elena. Me and Maddie parted ways promising to meet in the third period.
The day all in all was a blur. Getting in and out of the boring classes, giving unnecessary introductions and going over what we'd be doing in classes this year. I had been bored out of my mind till the time I reached home. I made my way upstairs to my room and jumped flat face on my bed letting out a loud groan, trying to get rid of the tiredness. I tend to do that a lot. First day of school was usually like this. Going to school, sitting through classes as teachers introduced themselves and their subjects. As if we didn't know we'd be studying math in senior year. Teachers are just dumb sometimes.
I changed into some comfortable clothes and walked downstairs to the kitchen hoping to see my Mom there. Mom wasn't there but there was a plate of spaghetti on the counter which I decided to devour to calm the horses in my stomach. I put the spaghetti in the microwave heating it up when I noticed a post-it on the refrigerator door. It must be from Mom I thought. I took it off and started reading it;
'Hey sweetie, sorry I couldn't be there in the morning. I came home just as you left. I have a double duty today so I'll be late. Don't wait up. Have dinner and go to sleep.
XOXO-Mom'
This was an everyday thing. My Mom's a doctor, a pediatrician to be exact. Her job's hard and as much as I hate it that she's never here, I know she's doing it for me. It's hard on her ever since Dad left and the second man in her life decided to cause trust issues for her. It brought back bad memories and my eyes started to water. I pushed the thought out of my mind. It's hard on her but she stays strong. My job at the local diner didn't start till next week and I had no homework so I decided to have a Supernatural marathon to distract my mind. After at least 7 episodes of Supernatural, my eyelids begin to feel heavy and in no time I drifted off to sleep.
(A/N): You guys thought Elena would be assigned to give William a tour, didn't you? Hahah it's not that cliché.
This was such a long chapter. I hope you like it. Please leave a vote or a comment if you like it. The next chapter has a surprise so please continue reading it. I'll be thankful:D
