Elena's P.O.V
After I got out of today's last class, Alec texted me that he wanted to meet me. He said to stay back at school and that he'd meet me at my car. We had a class together today, Physics. And he didn't even look at me.
Not that I wanted him too but he went past me to his seat at the back with a frown on his face, didn't say a word in the class that he usually does a lot. It also bothered the teacher I guess, because Sir Mathew kept making jokes on him but he kept silent. And he left the class as soon as the bell rang. Honestly, his behaviour bothered me. Why? No idea.
So, I kept my bag inside my car and stood outside, my back against the door of my driver's seat. I could see a figure walking towards me from the field. I couldn't make out who it was. Once the figure was close enough, I recognised it was Alec.
"What did you want to talk about?", I asked him.
"Why are you friends with William?", he asked.
"Friends? I barely know the guy.", I said.
"Does he know we're together?", he asked.
"Alec, we're fake. And even if he doesn't, I don't care. He's just my project partner.", I said.
"Talking about me?".
We turned our heads to where the voice came from. William.
"What do you want?", Alec asked William.
"Alec!", I scolded him. He was annoyed and it was clear on his face.
"William. Hey. I thought I texted you to meet directly at Paul's.""Yeah. I was just heading there.", he said.
"Why are you guys meeting?", Alec interrupted.
"What is it to you?", William replied, annoyed.
What is it with the both of them?
"I'm her boyfriend Ross-",
"Woah. When did that happen?", William questioned.
"Guys stop it. William, I'll meet you at Paul's. Janet will be there as well. You go. Bye.", I said to William, leaving no room for discussion. William left after throwing a glare at Alec.
"What is wrong with you?! Stop picking fights Alec.", I scolded him again.
"After this project I don't want you anywhere around him. He's bad news El.", he said.
"Rule no.4, no restrictions on each other of any kind. You should write these rules somewhere. Go home", I said, annoyed at Alec's behaviour and opened my car door. Starting the car, I could see Alec standing and glaring at me from the rear-view mirror as I drove away.
Parking outside Paul's, I walked in looking around to find my project partners.
The project all in all was a bore. A summary and a re-enactment of a scene from Shakespeare's Twelfth night. We literally finished it in an hour.
Weirdest thing about working on this project was that William a.k.a Will as he asked me to call him, kept asking questions about me. My Mom, Dad, Alec and other things. I didn't know the project was my biography. On the other hand, Janet, a popular girl who was constantly on her phone, probably thought conversing with low-lives such as ourselves was a disgrace to her. It's a wonder she even showed up here for the project. Whenever she looked up from her phone, she would start flirting with Will but he kept on ignoring her. It was funny though.
After I got home from Paul's, I went up to my room. Changing into comfy clothes I decided to finish my homework. Just then my phone rang.
I really am popular these days.
It was Alec. Groaning, I picked up his call.
"We need to meet tomorrow. Be ready at 6 p.m. Wear something nice. It's a date.", he said and he cut the call. That's how you ask girls out on a date nowadays?
Realising I would get nothing by fighting with him, I put my phone down and kept completing my homework.
I packed all my books and went downstairs to eat something. Just then the bell rang. I dragged myself to the door and opened it, coming face to face with Maddie.
"HI!", she literally yelled.
"Woah calm down Madds. What are you doing here?", I asked.
"Good to see you too babe. I figured you'd get busy in your dating life so I thought why not spend some time as BFF's?", she said, inviting herself in and settling on the living room sofa and placing the bags she had in her hands on the coffee table.
"What's that?", I asked, referring to the bags.
"That is Burger King my love. Dive in", she said.
Best friend goals or what. A huge grin sketched itself on my face and plopped myself down next to her. We ate and joked all night. Well, at least till the time Maddie had to leave. I needed this company, to be honest. Remember when I said Maddie had done so much for me? This is the kind of stuff I meant.
She helped me pick out a dress for my date with Alec. I don't know why but she was excited for this date. Of course I told her it was a fake date but she wouldn't listen. We settled for a cute black dress. It was black net, sleeveless, hugging my body till my waist and flowing down from there and reaching till my mid-thighs.
After Maddie left, I changed into my PJ's and laid in bed thinking about how my life turned out to be. A loving mother, an amazing bestfriend and a roof over my head. I'm grateful. I can't believe I used to think about finishing my life.
After what happened with Thomas, I went into depression. Maddie and Mom tried so hard to help me, I even started therapy but I just used to sit while the doctor asked me questions. I even started to cut myself. I couldn't do it. I couldn't do life.
Then came Blake. I used to quiet, only responding if I was asked to. Blake, however, used to hang around me even when I pushed him away and shouted at him to leave me alone. I pushed him away but he kept coming back. One thing led to another and after a few times hanging out, he asked me to be his girlfriend. And now the rest is history.
Thinking about such things, I drifted off to dreamless sleep. Sometimes, the pain that you feel is nothing compared to the joy that's coming.
