Elena's P.O.V

I sat on my bed with a jump, Alec's face never leaving my mind. What the hell am I supposed to do now? Alec knows one of my darkest secrets and just like a jerk that he is, he's never letting this go without having something in return.

What could he possibly want from me? I mean I'm not that much of an amazing student, just getting B's or an A once in a blue moon so he certainly can't ask me to do all his assignments. I'm non-existent on the social radar so I can't get any of my non-existent friends to hook up with him. Unless he wants to go out with Maddie. I'm sure Maddie has higher standards.

Just as I'm lying on my bed, my legs up the headboard and my back on the bed, I hear a ting on my phone indicating I had a message. I grab my phone off of the bedside table and open to see a message from an unknown number.
'Hey, there?', it said.

What the hell.

Should I reply?
No, you shouldn't.
But I should ask who this is.
It must be Alec.
I should ignore him, shouldn't I?
You should.

What should I do? I contemplated for five minutes. And I did what a wise person wouldn't do. I replied.
'Who is this?' -Sent

I waited for the reply but there was no reply. So after 15 minutes I knew that whoever the person was must have come to their senses and realized it must have been a wrong number. I got up from the bed and put my phone on charging. I noticed how my charging cable was falling apart. I can bet I'm going to get electrocuted some day. Noting in my mind to get a new cable, I made my way downstairs to get something to eat.

I walked into the kitchen not expecting to see my Mom making food. When did she come back? I really should stay alert of my surroundings.

"Hey Mom, when did you come in?", I said, pouring myself a glass of mango juice.

"Hey sweetie, how was school?", she ignored my question. Oh, okay.

"Boring. Can't wait to get out already". I sat down on the bar stool at the counter in the middle on the room.

"-eetie? Elena?" I heard my Mom call me.

"Yeah?", I zoned out I think.

"You okay? You're not here properly. What's going on?". I could hear the concern in her words.

How could I tell her I was thinking about how our life would've been if people like Dad and Thomas hadn't been in our life. I shook the thoughts out of mind and replied in the voice so chirpy, even a baby would find fake.
"Nothing. Just thinking about the shit load of homework I-" "Language Elena Robert Price!", Mom scolded me.

I winced at my full name. Robert? Seriously? I mean seriously?

"Sorry. I'll go finish my homework. Do you have work tonight?", I said grabbing an apple from the the fruit bowl my Mom has on the dining table. The dining room and kitchen is attached so I could hear what her reply was.

"No. I'm free. In-fact, I have tomorrow off as well. We should catch up you know. Some Mother-Daughter time". As much as it was an amazing idea I couldn't. Every time Mom and I spent time together, the unspeakable always became a topic. I couldn't do it this time.

"I can't. I'm going out with Maddie. I promised her."

Sadness colored her face, her eyes travelling to her lap as she tried to keep up her gradually fading smile. Ignoring the hurt look on her face, I went up to my room. Closing the door behind me, I went to get my phone. I sat on my bed, more like jumped. I had 6 missed calls and 9 text messages. Damn, am I famous?

I opened the call logs and noticed all calls were from the same number. I then opened the messages. One was from the previous unknown number.
'This is William Ross. The new kid at East Hawkins?'

Why was this kid messaging me? But I did what I'm best at and that is I ignored it. I opened the other messages that were from the same number as the calls. Just as I noticed the second message, it was like my blood drained. They were from Alec. Shit.

'Yo Elena'
Who even says yo anymore?
'It's Alec'
'Alec Kavinski'
'Why aren't you replying?'
'I'm at Paul's. You know the local diner.'
Not that I care, loser-face.
'I'm waiting for you. Come here within 20 minutes'
'Meet me or your secret will be on the front page of Hawkins Popular'
'It's been 30 minutes already. I'm still waiting...'

Oh shit. What am I supposed to do? Should I go? I quickly replied to him.

'You wouldn't.' -Sent
He wouldn't, would he?
'Right?'-Sent
'How'd you get my number?'-Sent

The reply I got was;
'That's for me to know and you to guess.'
'I'm still waiting.'

What did I get myself into? I rushed to my door grabbing my car keys and wallet. Skipping one stair on each step, I hurried to the door.
"Mom, I'm meeting Maddie. I'll be back.", I literally yelled.

Running to my car door, I jumped inside and sped my way to the diner. He better keep that secret or I might end up in jail for attempted murder.

The bell on the door rang as I opened the diner door, my eyes searching the diner for an arrogant jerk. My eyes stopped as I spotted him sitting in the far end on a table on his phone. His eyes shot up as soon as the bells chimed. A smirk plastered on his face as soon as he saw me. I hesitated to make my way up to him but eventually did.

"Hey sweetheart. I thought you'd never come!", he said.
I cringed at the nickname he gave me. I sat down in a seat opposite to him.
"How have-" I cut him right here.
"Cut to the chase. I don't have time!", I said.

"We'll have all the time in the world for each other babe". What the hell.

"Alright. I'll make it short since you look so desperate. Uhh, be my girlfriend.".

What?
