Whether it was the time or not
Plagued my mind this week and the last.
Though I decided that today was the day,
I still missed the first chance
That slight second
Carrying my opportunity,
And he was gone.I tell you,
By the end bell
I wrote down the sentence as fast as a note,
And the question mark as cooley as a period.
I thought for the quickest second
That'd I have to chase after him--
Until I looked up.My eyes traveled
Between a smile at the left
And to a pair of nervous, awkward eyes.
Then my mind's fears stopped working
For the briefest seconds.
My gaze lingered on the eyes for a moment,
Before seeing the smile turn and leave.Now I was left with the eyes and his friend;
The paper unconsciously folded down.
It was then upon holding it
That I could consider not going for it.
There was that slightest second,
And I remember thinking: 'Since I'm here...'.
And he was gone.--March 28, '18: afternoon
