• CHAPTER NINE •
Providence's POV
The next morning, I got up and trudged over to Maddie's house. I felt awful; I'd hardly gotten any sleep, constantly thinking about Luke and Ashton and touring and blonde girls with plastic smiles and fake personalities that Luke could be hooking up with.
I knocked half-heatedly, and Maddie opened the door. "Wow. Did you sleep at all last night?"
"Is it that obvious?" I asked wryly, tripping over her doorstep. "I think I got two hours."
Maddie pursed her lips. "If it makes you feel any better, you look good for someone who got two hours of sleep."
I gave her a dry smile. "Thanks."
Maddie kept on looking at me. "I had a fun day planned out, but you look like death."
"I feel like death."
She frowned. "It's Luke." It wasn't a question. "He's doing this to you."
I shook my head and said, "No, I'm doing it to myself. I keep stressing over nothing. It's really f-"
"I swear, if you say you're fine, I will rip your head off," she said darkly, glaring at me. "You're clearly not. Just so you know, you haven't been doing such a great job of hiding it, either. You really need to get it together."
Shuffling my feet, I said, "You're right... I'm sorry. Okay, look, I was gonna tell you later, but when I was video chatting with Ashton last night, Luke walked in, and he looked so pissed off. He was snapping at me and he looked really annoyed." I frowned. "I think he's still mad at me for not going, and now he will hardly talk to me, we haven't texted or called in days, and Maddie, I really miss him."
She and I walked over to her room, and I felt like crying. "Maddie, what do I do?" I asked, biting my lip.
"If you ask me, sounds like he was pissed that you were chatting with Ashton, not pissed off at you," she said, pulling her long hair back into a sleek ponytail.
I flopped onto her bed, wrinkling her sheets. "But-"
"Don't ask me what I think if you're just going to reject it," she said sharply, giving me a severe look. "God, please let me do your hair. It looks awful."
I frowned at her. "That's rude to my hair."
"No offense, but you really need my help with it," she said, sitting next to me. "Come on. Let's go do your hair."
Once again, she plopped me in her make up chair, and I let her curl my brown locks. "Why is my face so awkward? How did Luke put up with me?"
Maddie just sighed and shook her head, finishing the curls and pulling out some mascara.
I let her play make up artist on me until she came over with silver eyeshadow. "No, Maddie, I'm not getting ready to go be a stripper."
"But the silver will bring out your blue eyes so well!"
I shot her a suspicious look. "We're staying home. Who is there to impress?"
"I'm practicing for my make up art final. I need to learn how to properly blend this without looking like Tinkerbell just tossed pixie dust onto your face."
