-3 YEARS BEFORE RECENT EVENTS-

"hey dork" Andy said to walking up to Nya on the hallway smiling

It was lunch time and students were all over the halls

"hey loser" she said returning it

Nya and Andy were inseparable, they had been best friends since childhood and had recently admitted to having feelings for each other but they were young and didn't know what to do with them

"Are you free on Saturday, my moms making me and Lauren go to my grandmas place. you wanna come by maybe to make it less... you know, lame?" He asked

"Sorry Andrew I'm heading to Florida for the weekend, I'll send you some pictures of me at Disneyland tho" She told him smugly

"Ugh. Why do you get to go to have fun while I have to listen to stories about old people stuff"

"Because I have to support my little brother with cancer" Nya said with a deadpan face

Her brother Jeremy had cancer, Disneyland is what he asked for from the make a wish foundation.

They weren't actually related. The Kellers were a rich couple who made it out of the hood, they couldn't have children so they did the next best thing, they adopted children who were unlikely to be adopted.

Nya was from Kenya, she was born with stark white pin straight hair (but she dyed it black to fit in at school) and bluish grayish eyes, it was concluded that she had a form of albinism. Grace was from China and at one point during her birth she received a large cut across her face leaving her with a permanent scar. Kyle had Down syndrome he was the son one of Mrs Kellers cousins they had adopted and finally there was Jeremy who was from new york, he developed leukemia as a baby. All of the children had been unwanted by their birth parents

"Good point"

"Besides your grandma is pretty cool"

He shrugged "Yeah, I guess"

The bell rang for classes to begin again

"I've got to get to class so see you later Andrew"

"A kiss before you go?"

"Don't push your luck lover boy" she told him walking away

—THAT WEEKEND-

The Struckers all sat around the tv with concern on their faces as they watched the news

The woman on the TV spoke with utmost seriousness "meteorologist are rushing to explain this unexpected storm blowing all the way from Orlando to Miami as roads have been closed due to the flash flood that has already washed away several houses. It has been stated that this is one of the worst storms to ever hit the sunshine state"

"Call again mom" Andy told his mom

"I already have, the phone lines are probably down because of the storm" The Kellers were still there but no one could communicate with them

No one died but several people were injured and lost their homes. The cause the storm that started on day with a 10% chance of rain was never found.

The Kellers came back the next Tuesday but Nya was different, she distanced herself from everyone, even Andy.

And a few weeks after their return she left without a word or a trace.
