Harry's Point of View
I got in my car and drove the familiar way to Louis' house. I turned on his street and honked twice when I pasted Alice's house, like always. I could just imagine her laughing when she heard it. Thinking about her laugh made me think about how beautiful she was. It wasn't like I liked her or anything, she was practically like my sister, I just knew she was beautiful. Everyone thought so. People just like to look at her, she's a special kind of pretty. It's like whenever she walks in a room people hold their breath for a second just to appreciate how beautiful she really is. The best part was she didn't even notice it. It's not like she thought she was ugly, but she certainly didn't think she was pretty either. She was my best friend, I knew I could never have real feelings for her, I just knew how gorgeous she was.
I pulled into Louis' drive way, got out, and walked right into the house. He didn't care and neither did his family, we practically lived at each other's houses. I knew his mom was out of town for work, she went away a lot for her job and tonight Louis was in charge of his sisters. Sometimes they'd stay at friend's houses when she was away so Louis could go out, but tonight he said he'd watch them.
"Harry!" Phoebe, one of Louis' four sisters shouted hugging me.
"Hey, Phoebe, do you know where Louis is?" I asked when she released me.
"He's in his room," She said and ran off to play with her twin sister. I walked up the stairs and into Louis' room.
"Hey babe," He said when I walked in. It wasn't weird for him to call me babe, not at all, but his voice was lacking it's regular enthusiasm.
"Hey what's up?" I asked, implying that I knew something was wrong. I closed the door behind me and pulled his desk chair over to his bed where he was sitting.
"I don't know it's just, I can't stop thinking about Alice's song." He said, not like he was upset or anything, just not happy either.
"Because it was clear it was about her massive crush on you?" I said, more like a statement than a question.
"What? No that's not it." He defended. He would never admit that she liked him, hell it took him long enough to admit he liked her.
"Yes it is. You know her song meant she liked you, even if she said it was about 'friends,' and you're pissed because she won't just say it."
"Well, I guess." I knew I was right. "It's just, sometimes she acts like she likes me, you know? Like not just the song, it's like she looks at me the way I look at her." He was looking at the ceiling, not at me. I know Louis, I'm his best friend and he tells me everything, but he hates talking about his feelings. I nodded so he knew he could continue. "But then, on the other hand, it's like she doesn't want to be with me at all. Like she just wants to be…friends. At your party I…I kissed her." My eyes widened and I almost fell out of my seat.
"You what?! You kissed Alice?! Why the fuck didn't you tell me, man?!" I yelled. He shushed me, he didn't want his sisters to hear.
"I didn't tell you because nothing came of it. It was like for one second she kissed me back, but then she pulled away. The weirdest part was, she wasn't like mad or anything, she just kept dancing, like nothing happened."
"Look I don't know a lot about what happened that night," I said, not remembering anything until I got sick, "but I I remember what Alice told us. She said all that about her ex-boyfriend being an alcoholic and her dad and everything. Look, man, I don't know a lot about her past, I wish she would tell me, but she won't, but I do know she's clearly been through some tough shit. Maybe she's scared." I said shrugging.
