For the rest of the weekend, Miles hid in his bed, watching TV. Dad's and Claire's screaming could be heard in the whole penthouse and were not exactly helpful with his headaches.
Eventually, Sammy sneeked into Miles' room and brought his playstation.
On monday morning, Miles left before his father and sister stood up and took an earlier train to school.
Nate and Scott were already standing at their lockers, when Miles joined them.
"Hey", he greeted them, and they looked surprised.
"What are you doing here so early?", Nate asked, but Miles just shrugged, rummaging through his locker. Eventually he closed it and turned to Nate: "So, how was your date?"
Nate immediately grinned widely: "Amazing! I really think this could work, we even kissed!"
Scott's eyes met Miles', but both of them quickly looked away.
"Cool!", Miles then said and Nate frowned at them: "What's wrong?"
"Nothing", Scott and Miles shook their heads silmutaneously and Nate slowly nodded: "Alright ... Oh, guys, there's Gwen. I'll see you at lunch!"
With that, he ran towards Gwen and left them.
"Everything alright?", Scott asked and Miles looked at him confused: "Sure, why?"
"Well, friday night you disappeared very sudden..."
"Oh", Miles remembered. "That had nothing to do with you, I ... my Dad called."
"So it wasn't because of the kiss?", Scott crossed his arms.
Oh, right ... the kiss. Miles had not really thought about that, he would have almost forgotten about it, if their reactions earlier had not been that awkward.
Miles shook his head: "No, it wasn't."
"Good", Scott said. "I won't make a big deal out of it, I just don't want us to be awkward around each other now ..."
"Okay, no, we won't", Miles smiled and Scott smiled, too, so everything was alright.
During lunch, the three of them sat at their usual table.
"Okay guys", Nate began, "tomorrow night there's a party!"
Scott frowned: "Is it?"
Nate nodded excitedly: "I know, it's in the middle of the week, but it'll be great! The host is a friend of Gwen and she invited us."
"Sounds good", Miles decided and put some fries in his mouth.
Scott nodded and grinned: "If it's Gwen's friends ..."
Nate rolled his eyes at Scott, but seemed satisfied: "Okay, I'll pick you up and drive us there."
"You're not drinking?", Scott was surprised and Nate nodded: "Of course not."
Miles laughed at that: "Oukayy ..."
"Seriously!", Nate persisted. "Gwen doesn't drink, neither ..."
"Ohh, so you're doing it for her?", Scott winked, but Nate just scoffed and turned back to his food.
"Well, good for us", Miles smiled.
They put away their empty food trays and left the cafeteria, walking towards the lockers. In the hallway, a girl suddenly stopped in front of them, staring at Miles.
Miles did not notice her at first, until Nate nudged him with his elbow.
"Ouch?", Miles turned to Nate, but then followed Nates gaze and recognized the girl.
It was Larissa, the girl that had been attacked in Central Park that night.
"Hi?", Miles greeted her and she suddenly was able to move again. She took a few quick steps towards him, and then threw her arms around his neck. He was a bit surprised by that, but hugged her back.
"Thanks, again", she whispered and Miles smiled, then she let go of him.
"I didn't know you were going to this school", he said and she explained: "This is my first day, I transferred here."
Miles nodded and then asked: "So are you okay?"
"Yes!", she looked at him happily. "Thanks to you!"
Miles smiled shyly and did not know what to say now, then she wanted to know: "But why did you disappear all of a sudden?"
"Um", Miles scratched the back of his head, "there was something I had to do, and you were in safe hands, so ..."
"Oh, okay", she smiled and then waved quickly: "Okay, I'll see you around, then!"
"Sure, see you!", Miles said and she went away.
Nate grinned widely and looked at Miles: "Ohhh, who was she?"
"Someone I know", Miles answered.
"She sure was hot", Nate whispered and Miles rolled his eyes: "Hey, be careful Gwen doesn't hear you."
"Come on", Nate persisted. "Did you hook up with her? It kinda sounded like that ..."
"No, it's not like that ... we only ... talked one time."
"Mhm, sure. Talk", Nate winked.
Scott just looked at Miles with a frown, but did not say anything.
"So, the party ...", Miles changed the topic, "when are you picking us up?"
