It was around ten years ago when Deliora had attacked the city Gray was living in. The whole place was wiped out in less than a day, Ur and Lyon saved him when they just happened to be passing by at the time.
That was how it all began.
She took him in as a student to learn her Ice-Make Magic. So he trained and he trained but he thought that it her type of Magic was useless when it came to what he really wanted to do. Get revenge on the demon that killed his parents. Ur was the one who taught him how to be one with the cold which is why Gray always takes off his clothes now, it was his habit. When him, Lyon, and her were on their way from grocery shopping a carriage with hunters passed by discussing Deliora and his whereabouts.
He was in Brago.
So that night, he left the cottage where he had once stayed with Ur and Lyon to go and try to take the demon down. His Master fought him about how he wasn't strong enough but he didn't care. She then gave him an ultimatum, if he left he would no longer be her student but he just kept going. But as Gray left he told her that if Deliora killed him it would be her fault for not teaching him real Magic.
Ur went after him and battled the demon, losing her leg which she replaced with ice. Both Lyon and he had been knocked out unconscious but he was the first to wake. She told Gray to take him and leave since it was hard enough fighting Deliora, protecting them was only making things complicated. He begged her not to fight the demon but she only insisted. That's when Lyon woke up.
He told her all about his dreams of surpassing Ur and ordered her not to lose but that didn't matter as he took it into his own hands. He began to perform Iced Shell which turned the caster's body into ice to seal their opponent for all eternity. Before he could fully conduct it Ur froze him, taking it upon herself to be the one to do it despite Gray's cries for her to stop. As she lost her body in the spell she told him to tell Lyon that she had died in the battle so that he could move on.
"Doesn't the temple... look a little crooked? It wasn't like that when we first discovered it." Lucy spoke up after Gray had finished telling his story to them. I looked up and tilted my head, what had happened already registering in my head. "I swear I have the most brilliant partner out there. Natsu did that, I don't know how but he did it so that the moonlight can't shine down correctly onto Deliora."
I knew i called him stupid or an idiot on many occasions but I never really meant it. He was smart in his... own way and well this just proved it. Gray crossed his arms as he stared at the ruins. "He would be the only one out of us who'd do something that crazy."
Lucy laughed. "So him destroying crap all the time actually came in handy this time?"
As her chuckles echoed through the forest, decorated knives flew at us suddenly. I threw myself onto her and happy as two came their way, the deadly small weapons striking the tree behind us. They breathed out heavily in relief but I looked down at them with an intense glare. I got up off of them, brushing the dirt off and looking towards where I bunch of Lyon's minions stood with a weapons."Fairy Tail Guild Members! We have tracked and found you, we won't let you destroy the Cold Emperor's plans!"
Erza rolled her eyes and equipped her sword. "The four of you go, I can handle them."
"But..." I walked towards her but she only whipped her head around with a sneer. "I said go!"
Lucy and Happy decided to stay against her orders, pulling out a fish and a whip in order to help. I chuckled at them before Gray grabbed my wrist, making a break for the temple.
---
"Stand back."
Gray looked back at me as we made it into the temple. I had noticed a room covered in ice and he was now attempting to break it. He made a stance, closing his eyes and the ice caved into a small hole big enough for us to fit through. I rushed past him inside, looking for Lyon. I was going to be Gray's Ur. I wanted to be the one who sealed away his darkness for good, the one who could make him happy.
Be his protector, his everything.
I may not ever be as equivalent to the bond between a Master and student but I was going to try my best to carry out Ur's wish for him.
To live on, have a happy future.
I looked around the iced out room and sure there was, Natsu and Lyon standing on either side of it facing off. I ran to my partners side and wrapped my arms around him. "Thank god you're okay!" Now both of all three of my boys were safe and sound. I couldn't have asked for anything better than that and now it was time to take this guy down for messing with my family. "As if I would let a jerk like this take me down." He grinned down at me.
"It's time we settled things, right?" I crossed my arms at Lyon who was glaring straight at me. "The only thing being settled will be you in your grave once I'm done with you!"
Gray stood in front of the two. "Not on my watch. I'm ready to end this now, to end you."
"You seem awfully confident."
"Ur died ten years ago because of me. But you know what? You're no better, you've threatened my comrades, brought harm to the villagers, and now you're trying to destroy what our Master gave her life to create. We will accept our punishments together, Lyon." Gray slowly placed his right arm above his left, the right palm facing down; left palm is facing up.
I knew that stance... he was going to perform Iced Shell.
"Gray!"
"If you want to live, change the villagers back to their human forms and then take your accomplices and leave!" A Magic Circle appeared below him, shining a bright blue. Lyon merely smirked as he obviously wasn't taking this very seriously. "I don't believe a word of what you're saying, you're bluffing."
That only made Gray intensify the spell, moving to the next step. "I'm not."
He was completely serious which scared me, I tried to go over to him and make him stop this crazy plan but Natsu wrapped an arm around me - holding me back. "I have to stop him." I pleaded but he only shook his head with pain in his eyes. "This is his battle. He's the only one who can stop."
"The fact that Ur died because of me will never change and it's time I took responsibility! I'm going to do it here, I'm not afraid to die if that's what it takes!" Gray spoke as the wind around him intensified. I fought against Natsu, he couldn't die, I refused to let it happen. Not after what we had just gone through and what we admitted to each other!
Call me selfish but... I can't just let him go.
"It's up to you Lyon! Will we both die or will we both live?"
"You wouldn't, you're not brave enough to give your life!"
Tears streamed down my as Natsu shouted at him. "Gray, stop!"
His face was turning into ice along with his body, cracking here and there.
He was really going to go through with this.
Leave the Guild and all of our friends.
Leaving me.
He closed his eyes. "Rosette... Natsu... Erza... Everyone in Fairy Tail... the rest is up to you. Sorry, but it's my time to go."
(Sorry this chapter is a little short, but there wasn't much to gather from the episode that I could throw Rosette in. Considering this a small break since all my chapters are so long.)
