Work was like it was every other day. I got to leave early because I did most of my work at home.
I constantly tried to appeal to my boss concerning working at home, but he always said "you are more of an asset in the office than in the comfort of your home where no one can catch you off guard." He always believed that more growth can be done in the presence of him.
Sitting in my office, bored, I was grateful to Gordon for getting me a date that I convinced myself I had no time to go on. I understood that he wanted me to settle down, but I'm still in my 20's and I don't need to get married to feel like I have a purpose.
Caught in my thoughts once again, I recognized that it was time for me to go. I packed my things up and locked the door to my office. I walked past the very few people and wished them a good night.
I hadn't even stepped foot out of the door of the office building before I got a call from Gordon.
"Hello," I said in a whisper since there were other people in the elevator.
"Your date is tonight. He had to move it forward suddenly. I'm sorry, I know it's short notice."
"Ya think?" The doors opened and we all parted ways.
"Please tell me you have nothing to do."
"Gordon, it's fine, I'm on my way home anyway."
I tried my best to get home as fast as I could to take a shower and everything, but before I could even get into my apartment door. I saw a man walking up to me with his hands wrapped around a bouquet of multicolored flowers. He was tall from afar, but when he got closer, it was apparent that he could've been mistaken for the green giant. I was already a taller woman myself, but compared to him, you'd think I was average.
As he got closer, I could make out his features. He had sunken green eyes with faint bags. It was like his eyebrows casted their own shadow over his eyes. He had a pointed nose that curved at the tip a bit. I couldn't tell how big it was until he turned to the side. It was more of a triangular shape with the ever most slightest arch at the bridge. He had a fairly sharp jaw, high and prominent cheekbones, and sunken cheeks connected by his very plump and sharp lips which I couldn't help stare at when the central air in the hallway pushed his semi-long, dark, thick hair out of the way. If I could compare his hair to anyone, it would be Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski. His height coupled with his features made me feel intimidated but the flowers softened his aura.
The silence followed him finally catching up to me broke by a few words. "Hey! You must be Olivia."
"Yes, Finn?"
"Yeah." He handed me the flowers and came in for a bear hug after asking if it was ok.
He's wearing a gray suit with a black turtleneck to match the blacks shoes. It was a statement, or act least an illusion, saying that he had his shit together or at the very least had money. He was well put together and his demeanor showed it. His black hair was flowing and didn't look greasy or sticky at all. And he smelled so good.
I opened my door hesitant to let him in but not really having a choice otherwise. Glad that I found solace in cleaning, I invited him into the living room. "I hope you don't mind waiting. You came exactly at the same time I got home. Not to mention, I hope it wasn't a hassle coming to pick me up. I told Gordon that it would be a better idea to just meet up but whatever."
"No, no, not at all. I feel kinda bad. I actually saw you out on the street when I was getting here. I would have thought Gordon had given you the time I was coming. You look nice by the way." He flashes a smile my way and turns his attention onto the tv that I invite him to turn on.
"Well he can be a bit ditzy sometimes." I leave him to it and take the fastest shower in history. I cram my shower routine into 10 minutes. Washing my hair, cleaning my face, shaving, the works.
I get out of the warmth and into the cold to immediately do my hair. I do the simplest thing I know how to do, which is just blow drying my hair and curling some strands around a brush.
Based on his clothing, I try to match his energy. I pull out a black dress that I've only worn once. It's a bit tight, but it fits well otherwise. It is a long-sleeved dress with an exposed back. I decided to match the dress with red bottoms that I'd been meaning to return. I finish the look with little makeup. Red lipstick will do. I turn around to see my back in the mirror which is covered by my charcoal colored hair.
I grab a long grey trench coat out of my closet and hang it over my shoulder. I walk out of my room to see the back of Finn's head as he watches a show on Netflix that I'd been meaning to watch called Mars.
He hears my heels and turns around in awe.
"Wow, you clean up nicely and we match." He turns the show-off and meets me behind the couch.
"Thank you?" I question not sure if that was a compliment or not.
"Shall we?"
He bought me many places like dinner, dancing, and we wandered the streets for a bit of exploring new places. He got ice cream on my dress and he promised to buy me a new one. Even though people stared I didn't care as much as I thought I would and it was fun having a date night where I didn't feel like I wasn't being myself. Finn kept things interesting which made me want to stick around and see where things go even if he can be immature or laugh at my serious questions
