Life back at the house didn't get any better. Of course Finn became more of an attentive partner because his and my family was around more during the day, but at night, he was away with whatever girl would have him next. When our families stopped coming around, he was gone all day. I didn't have Gordon anymore and I had to take a leave of absence from my job. I'm not sure when Finn started seeing other women but I'm sure it started around the time Lucian drove me home. He went on and on about how he couldn't trust me but also left me by myself whenever his phone rang.
I did talk to Lucian from time to time. Strictly over the phone and I deleted the calls right after. I wasn't sure if Finn was checking my phone, but I didn't want to know how he'd react. Lucian and I talked mostly about the babies and how he was happy for me among other things like what Finn was like and if I was happy. I found it easy to open up to him except for the violence in my relationship. I knew that Lucian knew some things were wrong, but he did me the honor of never asking.
"Liv, I'm gonna be gone for the rest of the day so don't wait up." Finn yelled from the door as he left for work. The moment I saw him pull into the long pathway leading to the road I called Lucian.
"Long time no chat." He said answering the phone.
"I've been a little busy," I laughed, "I do miss work though, it's so boring out here alone."
"Finn gone for the day already?"
"And all night so he says."
Lucian sighs, "do you want company? I have today off and we could go to lunch."
A minute of silence goes by. "I can't leave the house in case Finn comes back. He'd be upset that i'm not taking it easy." I lied. He'd be upset about me leaving to have lunch with a man more than focusing on relaxing.
"Then I could bring lunch to you. I'm sure I still have your address somewhere in my gps. I'm not taking no for an answer."
"I still don't know. Only if you're able to park somewhere else and walk to my house. I would just be weird if Finn stopped back home for something and found your car here or me gone."
"It's ok, I understand. I'll see you in a couple hours."
The phone call ended with Lucian joking about needing to climb in through a window too. Although i am anxious about Finn coming home earlier than he says he will, I'm am excited about having someone in my presence other than walking on eggshells around a volatile man.
I knew I was just having lunch and I had no plans on having sex with Lucian, but I took the time to mend my appearance since I haven't seen much of anyone since my leave of absence from work. I shaved and washed my greasy hair. I wasn't looking to impress him, but I thought a floral sundress would be nice to have lunch in. It was also the only dress I had that would cover up a modest portion of my breast given the size they've gotten since pregnancy.
When I finished attending to my appearance, I sat outside on one of the couches on the porch waiting for Lucian to show up.
I saw a figure walking down the driveway next to the bushes and felt my phone start to ring indicating it was Lucian, but the second the man looked up, he hung up the phone. "Hi," I yelled and waved. He waved back, picking up his pace. When he climbed the steps to find me standing at the top, he pulled me into a big hug.
"You've gotten big." He gestured to my stomach.
"Yeah it's almost time. What did you bring?"
"Greek, I figured it was healthy and filling enough for a pregnant woman. And if you don't like greek food then I also have a bit of Chinese, Italian, and Indian." He said while holding up the 2 bags he had been carrying.
