I didn't hear from Finn at all the next day and seeing the nanny was a bit awkward assuming she heard some of our argument but hadn't mentioned it. Although she lives on the other side of the house, close enough to be near the kids, but far enough away from our bedroom, I'm sure she heard Finn slam the door and not come back.
Since I worked from home the next day, I got to spend more time with the kids alongside the nanny and get to know her more and vise versa. I learned that she loved taking them out to the park even though they weren't old enough to play, she believed in letting kids experience the elements as much as they could while they were still children to induce curiosity with nature. Not sure of what to make of everything she believed, it seemed to have a positive affect on Sylvia and Beau and I adored it.
After a mundane work day, I made dinner for the two of us. I read that it was normal for nannies to have their own kitchens and living areas, but as of now, Julia had her own room with an adjoining bathroom and we gave her the living space on the second floor which could house a mini fridge— in some way or another it could have been considered a mini dorm. I wasn't sure of how long she was going to be nannying for us, but one thing I agreed with Finn on was getting the basement cleaned up and furnished to act as an apartment for Julia.
"Who's my baby girl?" I said to Sylvia while she was in my arms while I pumped. It was a hard task balancing her and cooking but actually getting to spend time with her melted my heart.
Being the angel she is, Julia offered to help but I declined in hopes of not wanting to be a burden. Beau was down for a nap and Sylvia was restless so I took her off the hands of Julia to give her alone time.
For dinner, I cooked something simple that could last which consisted of soup and a side salad. While it cooked, I put Sylvia down for her nap as she was falling asleep in my arms. It was a skill that I had not yet perfected, but was significantly cutting down the time on. After she was out it was time to finish pumping and the amount came out to a whopping 5oz for one breast and 3 for the other.
I let Julia know dinner was ready and waited for her to join me. It was odd having her around the more that I thought about it. Of course she was great as a nanny, but being much older than me, I felt like I could learn a lot from her as if she was my mentor.
We both sat at the kitchen counter as we did not use the dinning room much.
"Sorry its so simple," I laughed. "I'm able to cook, I promise, but who knew trying to hold a baby girl and cooking would be so hard?"
"Hey thats what im here for, if you need help you let me do my job."
"I know, but I feel guilty when they're not around me sometimes like im just pawning them off."Julia looks at me with a very understanding look.
"That is very common for first time mothers and it's better to seek help than try to balance it all on your own and fail at it." Her bluntness surprises me for a bit before I realize its constructive. "I don't mean to pry, but if you want to talk about anything else I am all ears. I love nannying your kids, but I could also be a friend. Within means."
Feeling a bit awkward, I decline her offer to talk about Finn. "I will keep that in mind," I smile.
Done eating, I offer to take Julias things aswell but she assures me that she will be going in for seconds so instead of staying, I tell her I'll clean up the kitchen and put everything away before bed and she's free to have whatever she wants.
Upstairs, I check my phone to see not a single message from Finn and no missed call from Lucian so I take it as a good sign.
I clean up the bedroom since the floor is dusted with pieces of clothing here and there and I decide to change the sheets also. Feeling complete, I run a bath and grab some essentials to relax.
