I still wasn't ready to say the words back. We'd been together for over a year now and I met his family while he met mine, but saying the phrase "I love you," seemed out of character for me. I wasn't the one to display all of my emotions and whatnot, but I knew I needed to say it soon. Finn, on the other hand, wasn't worried about me not being able to say it. He said, and I quote, "there's a time and place for everyone, never feel pressured."
I did end up spending the whole weekend with Finn before going back home Sunday night.
"Remember to think about it," Finn murmurs while placing a kiss on my cheek and hugging me.
"I will." I shut the door as Finn walked away and set my things down on the kitchen counter before going to take a shower.
I did plan on accepting Finn's offer, but I knew I'd have to beg my boss for that position and, on top of all that, wait to be accepted into being able to work from home.
I thought about how I'd ask David to work from home (without the conversation turning into a lecture) in the shower.
I took a break from shaving my leg and said, "hey, Dave, can I talk to you for a minute? I'm going to be moving-no, that sounds too formal. Ok, I walk into his office and I can ask that. Yeah, sure." I continued to shave my leg as I said the next line. "Hey, hey, hey- yeah I can't say that. Maybe I could sweet-talk him into it by bringing doughnuts. Maybe." I resume talking to myself in the shower. "Hey, you know how I keep asking to work from home? Well, I'm moving, and coming to the office would be a real inconvenience. Perfect."
I dressed in a nude suit with a white corset shirt and block heels and before I knew it, I was standing in front of Davids office with a box of doughnuts, coffee, and a stack of work that I'd completed the night before to get a head start and make myself look like a good candidate for the position. I knocked on the door and was welcomed in when the door was opened for me on the other side. As I stepped in, David was walking back to his desk while talking on the phone.
"Ok...perfect...Monday it is...great...alright...bye." He hung up the phone and looked at me, "are those for me?" He asked, gesturing to the treats in my arms.
"Yes, here." I walked toward his desk and set my things down on his desk before taking a step back.
"What's the occasion?"
"Well, I'm moving, and coming to the office would be a real inconvenience so I was wondering if I could work from home?"
"Fine."
"Fine?" I repeated. A part of me wished he'd put up more of a fight.
"Yes, but you need to come in at least two days of the week to catch your team up. We can't do everything without you, ya know." It was apparent that I was one of the youngest architects in the building which did make me feel better about being needed.
"Well, ok then." I turned around with a smile on my face ready to leave and finish my work in my office.
"Don't you want to know when you start working from home?" David called from behind.
"Oh, yes." I turned back around and got my schedule for the next week which was rather soon.
I shot Finn a text telling him the good news. We decided to have me start moving in this weekend to make everything easier. I was a little nervous to be moving in with Finn. It was long overdue, but it seemed too soon after our fight to move on from it so quickly.
The day came to an end, nothing was ever interesting about work. I cleaned my office and packed my things and waited for the elevator to come. The doors opened to reveal Lucian behind them leaning against the wall. He was wearing a suit, as always, that consisted of black, grey, and beige. His hair was in a different style from the normal two strands hanging in front of his forehead and the rest slicked back, this time, it was cut down on the sides and back with a side part where it was obvious he combed most to one side. He had on a beige turtleneck with a grey suit that had a check pattern. His shirt was a little on the tight side making it easy to see his muscles through it. His face was freshly shaven making it easy to see his cleft chin.
