"Hi Sweetie," Dad smiled at me, his hand intertwined with Mom's.
"Bella!" Dylan yelled over to me, locked in battle with another man. "What are you just standing there for?"
"Is this the boy?" Mom narrowed her eyes at Dylan, looking at him up and down. Aiden gave her a nod and she tisked in distaste. I furrowed my eyebrows when I felt a hand on my shoulder, causing me to tense.
"Hello, kitten," Luca purred in my ear and I elbowed him in the stomach.
"Shut up," I gritted my teeth, pushing down my feelings of fear.
No longer would Luca Deraleck scare me.
Luca backed off, moving towards my parents. I couldn't believe they weren't dead.
"What about Dylan's father?" I asked, and Dad shrugged his shoulders.
"Causalities in war."
"Who are you?" I snapped. "My parents would never act like this." Aiden quickly moved to grip my arms behind my back, restricting my movement.
Dean sidled up beside us as the battle around us slowed to a stop—everyone's attention on us.
Dylan kicked the person he was fighting away and rushed toward me, only stopping when he saw my face. Looking toward my parents, he did his own double-take as he recognized them. The rest of the agency erupted into whispers, as they too recognize my parents.
"Jessica? Gerald?" Director stepped from the shadows, blood spatters across her usual crisp uniform, her face confused. "How are you not dead?" She suddenly brightened, looking around wildly, "Is he here? Where's Bruce?"
"Dead," my mother answered, studying her fingernails indifferently. Director's face crumbled, and after a look toward me, Dylan moved to his mother, holding her tightly. His own face portrayed his anger and sadness, and my heart hurt to see him that upset. I glared at my parents, who remained apathetic to the situation.
"You let them capture and torture me?" I asked, fighting against Aiden. "Did you even care?"
Dad stepped forward, scowling, "It's your own fault. You didn't join us."
"I can't believe you," Dylan snarled. "You tortured your own daughter!"
Mom shrugged, and at that moment, my ideal image of my parents crumbled. "Did..." I stuttered, the fight completely leaving my body, "Did you ever care?"
"Of course, we did," Mom said sweetly. "We even were good agents at first. We had you, thought our lives were perfect. Then money troubles hit," Mom turned her attention from me to the Director. "You didn't give us enough to live!"
Director scoffed, "You had plenty of money. Your tastes were always too expensive."
"We like the best," Dad answered.
I was so confused, "But we lived in a modest house and I bought clothes at sale prices."
"You did," Mom said, waving her hand. "We wanted you to have a normal childhood." I choose not to answer. Mom continued, "So we started the Three Princes, recruited this boys as the faces, and got to work."
"Fuck you," I spat.
Dad wagged his finger at me, "No cursing, Sweetie."
"She can do whatever the hell she wants," Dylan released his mother from his grasp and moved towards me. Luca pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at Dylan. Dylan stopped, flicking his eyes between me and the gun.
"No, Dylan," I said in warning. "Don't do it."
"Please do it," Luca said, a teasing smirk on his face.
"Seems we are at a standstill," Aiden remarked from behind me. My parent surveyed the room and agreed.
"Cuff the living ones," Dad ordered. Aiden handcuffed me as Luca did Dylan.
"What are you going to do now?" I called out to my parents who had turned away.
Mom kept walking, but Dad paused and looked over his shoulder, "Rule number six, honey, never reveal everything you know."
I gritted my teeth as the Princes began to file everyone from the room. The majority of the Ace agents were led to a large room, but my friends and I were led to Lockup. Aiden pushed me into the cell Luca had occupied only a few hours ago, along with Alex and Vanessa. Levi and Boone were put into the cell next to us, but the door was left open as Luca held on to Dylan.
"Do you want some revenge on Ace?" Luca bellowed to the other prisoners. Seven out of the ten other them yelled 'yes' in return. Luca dragged Dylan to each door, using his fingerprint to unlock the doors.
"Are you sure you don't want to get out of here?" Dean asked one of the prisoners who didn't agree to take their wrath out on Ace.
"Yes," he answered, looking at me. "Ace treats me quite well."
"Well Ace isn't going to be around much longer," Aiden sneered. The man shrugged and went back to his desk. Dylan was tossed into the cell with Boone and Levi and the door slammed behind him. The perpetrators leered at us from their free state and were directed to head upstairs.
"Where's my mom?" Dylan yelled and Luca answered saying my parents wanted to 'talk' to her first. Dylan turned white at the mention of his mom possibly getting hurt and I wished once again there was something I could do.
The Three Princes left us, leaving silence in their wake. I sank down to the floor, my head in my hands. "They've won," I said, closing my eyes. "There isn't anyone to help us. We're all going to die."
I felt a slap on my head and I looked up to see Vanessa glaring at me, "Stop talking like that."
"What? Saying the truth?" I bit back. Alex placed a hand on Vanessa's shoulder, but looked at me.
"Nessa's right, we'll find a way out," Alex said, trying to give me a reassuring smile.
I dropped my head back into my hands, mumbling "Sure, whatever you say."
