Sometimes the future changes quickly and completely and we're left only with the choice of what to do next. We can choose to be afraid of it, to stand there, trembling, not moving, assuming the worst that can happened. Or we step forward into the unknown, and assume it will be brillant.

Cristina's POV

I was in my office, thinking about everything I'd accomplished since I got here, in Zurich two years ago. My Harper Avery award was in front of the big window which occupied an entire wall of my office with the beautiful view of Zurich behind. I'd worked really hard during more than one year and I finally won an Harper Avery award.

6 months ago :

Shane - Dr. Yang ? We have to leave or we'll be late at the ceremony.

Me - Yes, yes don't worry I'll come. Just give me a couple of minutes. Okay ? I'll meet you in the hallway.

Shane - Alright but just a few minutes.

I was really nervous. What if I lose ? This award is all I've ever dreamed about. I could not lose a second time. To reassure myself I was thinking about what Dr Thomas had told me when I was in Minnesota. So I said to myself  "Breathe. You have greatness in you Cristina". My phone rang. It was Meredith. She wished me good luck for today. Okay...I took a deep breath. There is no reason that I do not win this time. And I came down in the hallway.

Shane - Are you ready ?

Me - Yes I am.

Shane - Okay, so let's go.

We were taking our places at the table when Catherine Avery got up on the stage and started to give her speech.
"Surgery is the boldest and most fearless of the healing arts. The Harper Avery award celebrate those who have destroyed the obstacles, altered the directions, and invented the future of how we are to live and heal and thrive. The surgeons in this room are redefining medicine for generations to come. And so I am very pleased to announce this year's winner. The Harper Avery award goes to...
...Dr. Cristina Yang, Klausman Institute for Medical Research".

At that time, how I felt was beyond description. It was pure joy, content, like I was at the top of the world and no one could stop me.

Now I had everything to live for. I was a renowned Cardiothoracic surgeon with a prestigious award, I had friends in Zurich and in Seattle. But I felt like there was something missing in my life. Like a part of me was empty, and I don't know why. Or maybe I do but I don't want to admit it. Whatever, I have a surgery in 30 minutes and I have to go get ready. I walked out of my office when I saw Shane.

Shane - Morning, chief.

Me - Morning Shane. Hum...do you want to scrub in ? I have an aortic valve replacement.

Shane - Yes of course.

Me - Okay prepare the patient and meet me in the OR.

Since I moved to Zurich, Shane was my right hand, and I trusted him, he was a good surgeon.

Owen's POV

Amelia - Hey.

Me - Hey. How are you ?

Amelia - I'm fine. Hum...Did Teddy tell you when her plane was supposed to land ?

Me - Yeah, she should be here tomorrow around 7 am. I'll pick her up at the airport.

Amelia - Okay good, I'll see you tonight ?

Me - I don't think so I have a surgery, and it will probably take me a while. I'm sorry.

Amelia - Well, I guess I'll see you in the morning.

Me - Yes, you could come with me at the airport ? And then we can finalise the last details of the wedding.

Amelia - We're getting married !!

Me - We're getting married.

Amelia - I love you.

Me - Me too.

Amelia - Are you okay ?

Me - Yes.

Amelia - Sure ?

Me - Yes, yes don't worry.

Amelia - Okay.

She give me a kiss and left. But the thing is, I was not completely fine because I was getting married to Amelia and I was thinking about  another woman.

Never mind I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best
For you too, don't forget me
I beg, I'll remember you said :
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead.
