"Bye, Mom!"
"Bye, Mrs. Midoriya!"
They ran.
They ran towards the ominous dome that they had been in not too long ago, but what felt like forever. Just yesterday, they were in there, sleeping together safe and sound.
They ran several blocks until the sun reflected into their eyes, leaping off of the huge glass building.
Midoriya's legs began to feel like jelly and his throat began to burn with each shaky breath. Todoroki didn't let the exhaustion get to him, but when he stopped, Midoriya could see that he was breathing hard.
Of course, you idiot! His ribs!
Midoriya mentally facepalmed himself for not calling a rest before they got to the building. He felt guilty for not looking out for Todoroki. Clearing his head, he grabbed Todoroki's hand that hung by his side.
"Are you okay?" He asked tentatively.
"I'm... fine..." he responded with heavy breaths.
Midoriya let Todoroki lean onto him while he tried to formulate a plan. They didn't know where their classmates were being kept. Were they in the building, tied up like hostages? Or were they continuing with the test, like nothing ever happened? Were they even aware that the League of Villains were in there with them? There were so many possibilities and...
"Deku-kun!" Todoroki nearly shouted.
"Huh?" He responded with a blank look on his face.
Todoroki smiled slightly. "You're muttering."
Blushing, Midoriya looked away. "If you were listening, then I guess I don't have to explain my train of thought."
Todoroki nodded, shifting his weight on the smaller boy. "Yeah. We don't know what they did exactly, but it isn't good. I think the students know that the League of Villains are in there with them, because, well, even our class isn't that stupid."
By now, police cars and the press were starting to slowly arrive. Soon, red and blue flashing lights reflected off of the building from every angle.
"We have to get in without the police spotting us," Midoriya said as he led Todoroki back farther from the scene. "I don't think they'll be totally open to letting some kids— one with a cracked rib— inside to face the League of Villains alone."
"But if we don't get in... a lot of them will die." Todoroki concluded.
"We'll have to be fast, and stay vigilant," Midoriya said, not wanting to think of the more negative possibilities. The two interlocked their hands and speed-walked to the nearest tree closest to the main entrance. With their backs to the tree, they sized up the distance.
"Do you think any alarms will go off if we step inside?" Todoroki questioned with an arm placed reassuringly across the younger boy's thin body.
"I have an idea." Midoriya said. "But it won't work unless you agr—"
"I'm in." Todoroki responses immediately.
Shocked, Midoriya hesitated a moment before speaking again. "Okay, then. I'm going to use Full Cowl."
Todoroki's eyes widened slightly at the statement. "Are you going to be okay? Can you really use that to get to the entrance?"
"That's what I need your help for." Midoriya responded. He felt adrenaline and anxiety run through him as the familiar green bolts began to spark around him. Even though he was only using 5% of his full power, it was still overwhelming. But he had braced himself appropriately, and was confident that he could transport both of them to the entrance faster than they could be spotted.
"You're going to have to relax into my touch," Midoriya said as he placed his hands firmly on Todoroki's body. One arm was holding up his legs and the other held his neck. The last thing they wanted was for it to snap at the literal breakneck speed that he would be exposing the older boy to. Even though getting to the door would take less than two seconds, there were long lasting effects.
What really threw Midoriya off, however, was how light Todoroki was. It was as if he hadn't had a decent meal in days— which, besides the rushed breakfast this morning— he really hadn't. As he made sure he had a secure grip on the taller boy, Midoriya's Quirk burst to life around him.
In less than a second, he had leapt from behind the leafless tree and dove into the safe shadows of the doorway. As his Quirk slowly dissipated around him, he finally caught his breath. Despite this, he carried a now stunned Todoroki inside the building before any of the policemen could see them.
Once safely inside on the all-too-familiar catwalk, Midoriya gently placed Todoroki back on his feet. He gripped his side and placed half of his weight on Midoriya, and guilt flowed through him. He was so stupid— how could he have forgotten about his injury?
No time to think about it now. He scanned their surroundings. The once sky-blue screens were now powered off and black, showing the two boys from all angles in their dark reflections. Skylights that were previously unnoticed were now the only source of light in the gloomy building, as well as the heavy glass door behind them.
As their eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, a picture was painted in black and gray befire their eyes. Their classmates were nowhere to be found, and the ground beneath them was now charred and mangled in many places. No doubt a fight went down, but what were the results?
"We left here late last night..." Midoriya stammered, his voice shaky. "It's not even 10 AM yet...!"
"The battle must have been pretty one-sided..." Todoroki muttered.
The two continued towards the building in apprehensive silence. Their shoes hit the metal, giving off a sound that eerily resonated throughout the whole room. The whole situation made Midoriya want to run in circles, scream, pumch a wall, do anything if it would mean thag this torturing silence would cease. The broadcast was made no more than 30 minutes ago. Where were they?
"Look who showed up, just like you expected, Shigaraki~kun!"
Panicking, the two of them turned towards the voice, but was met with just more darkness.
"We went out on a huge limb to get you two assholes over here... I hope you realize that we literally exposed our entire organization." another voice said softly.
Todoroki and Midoriya we're back-to-back on the catwalk. The building was probably 20 feet away. If they could just get down the stairs to solid ground...
"Toga~chan." the muffled voice whispered.
Something whizzed past Midoriya's nose. He didn't have to think twice before he rammed himself into Todoroki's body, launching them both down into the darkness below.
