Todoroki couldn't bring himself to tell Deku that he saw everything.
His Deku, stolen from right under his nose.
His Deku's first kiss taken without mercy.
His Deku, crying himself to sleep with Todoroki silently doing the same right outside his window.
So much pain was ripping his heart out but at the same time, his complete love for Deku was mending it back together. The two were trapped in an endless battle.
It was sad that the pain was winning.
But, if it meant Deku would be happy for at least a few minutes, Todoroki could push aside his own troubles.
His kind eyes didn't leave Deku's face as it burrowed even deeper into his baggy shirt. In response, Todoroki nuzzled the boy's head slowly and reassuringly while pulling him closer with his other arm.
They remained in this position for several moments while they relaxed in the other's embrace. The short few minutes were over too soon when Midoriya's grip around Todoroki loosened and he started sniffling.
Taking this as an opportunity to let Deku gather his thoughts, Todoroki decided to step away and sit on the edge of the mattress on which the two of them had slept. He remembered how quickly Midoriya had calmed after he had crawled in with him. He wanted to go back to that moment. He wanted so much and needed so many answers.
He wanted to take Deku far, far away where no onw could hurt him.
But he needed to know why he felt like he was suffocating if he wasn't breathing the same air as Deku.
Todoroki went from smoothing his hair to pulling it out in frustration. Tension— from their "relationship," his family, Uraraka— was starting to take its toll.
"T-Todoroki..." Deku said, barely a whisper.
"P-please don't pull your hair out...!"
Todoroki blinked, and his sudden confusion dissapeared for the time being. His vision was blurry. Something kept him from looking up at Deku. He just didn't want to look at lips that hadn't been claimed by his and tears that weren't of joy; but worst of all, he didn't want to see the suffering Deku was going through that was completely because of him.
Todoroki had no clue how to feel, and neither did Midoriya. They sat in awkward silence, neither knowing what to do. Midoriya probably didn't want to look at Todoroki because he had kissed Uraraka; Todoroki wanted to do the exact opposite.
But he had to hold himself back, because his wants weren't as important as Deku's needs.
Right now, Deku probably needed to be alone.
Todoroki stood from his spot on the bed. His shoulders drooped with defeat. He grabbed the backpack, which had been thrown in the corner the previous night.
"Deku... I don't think it's best for me to be here right now."
The words tasted downright disgusting in Todoroki's mouth. But was for the best.
Right?
"No..." Deku wimpered, looking up from his lap. Todoroki stared at the floor, not able to meet the other boy's tearful gaze.
"Todoroki, please don't leave."
"It's— it's complicated. I'm sorry Deku, but..."
"Of course it's complicated. When wasn't it?" Deku said in a harsh tone. Todoroki flinched at the words.
