The rest of the dinner went by very slowly, for Michael at least. Everyone made small talk through out the whole dinner and it was extremely awkward. Or maybe Michael was the only one who felt awkward.
He quickly ate his food, not saying anything unless he was asked something. He wanted to leave as soon as possible.
-
Twenty minutes later, everyone was done eating. Michael quickly got up and thanked Calum's mom for dinner. Calum's mom asked him if he wanted to stay and hangout with Calum and Luke for a bit. Michael tried to decline, but Calum's mother wouldn't have it.
"my mom's expecting me back, I really need to leave" Michael lied, praying she'd believe him.
"you told me she was working late tonight" Calum said, from his seat at the kitchen table.
Michael sighed, of course Calum would remember.
"so will you stay?" Calum's mom asked, smiling. She was always nice to Michael, and Michael was grateful for her kindness. He liked her, he really did but he just wasn't in the mood right now to be around people. Especially Luke.
"I guess" Michael said and shrugged.
-
After that, Michael followed Calum and Luke into Calum's room. Luke awkwardly sat on Calum's bed, while Calum sat on a chair by his desk. Michael, not wanting to be close to Luke, sat on the ground.
"so Luke, this is Michael, he's my best mate" Calum said, nodding towards Michael.
Michael wished disappearing was an option right now.
Luke nodded awkwardly, but avoided looking at Michael.
"well I have to go to the washroom, I'll be right back. You guys can play Fifa or something if you want" Calum told the two, before making his way out of the room.
The pair remained silent, Michael wondered what Luke was thinking right now. He wondered if Luke was thinking about him, he probably wasn't. He doubted he could be ever be a thought that crossed Luke's beautiful mind ever again.
stop michael. you're supposed to be getting over him. Michael tried to remind himself.
"Michael?" Luke asked after moments of silence.
Michael wasn't sure if he had actually heard Luke or if he had imagined hearing him.
"please talk to me Michael" Luke spoke softly.
Michael looked up from the floor to see Luke's beautiful blue eyes staring at him.
"yeah?" he asked, wondering why Luke had decided to even acknowledged him.
"I'm sorry" Luke said. He opened his mouth again to say something, but quickly closed it.
Michael wasn't sure how to respond to that. Should he say that it was fine? Should he be honest and say that it wasn't fine? Should he say that since Luke left that day it felt like his heart had been ripped right out of his chest?
"Michael, I'll understand if you hate me or if you never want to talk to me again but I want you to know how fucking sorry I am. I really do like you, I just don't know how to deal with my feelings and you made me feel things I wasn't used to feeling. I'm just sorry, and I know I've said that like three times but I am" Luke said, playing with the sleeves of his shirt.
"I could never hate you Luke, ever"
"hey guys! what'd I miss?" Calum asked, grinning as he walked in.
"nothing" Michael mumbled, disappointed. He wanted to continue talking to Luke.
"wanna play some games now?" Calum asked and both boys nodded.
-
After an hour of playing some video games, Luke's mom wanted to leave. Michael decided to leave too. He was tired, and if Luke wasn't there then he didn't want to be there either.
Drastic change from just two hours ago, he thought to himself and chuckled slightly.
-
After everyone said their goodbyes at the door, they left. Michael was walking down the sidewalk when he felt someone pull at his arm.
"wait" he heart a quiet voice say.
Michael turned around, he knew it was Luke.
"can I walk you home?" Luke asked, and Michael noticed his blue eyes shining almost as bright as the moon.
"sure" Michael said, realizing how hard he had fallen for this boy.
Luke smiled, before slipping his hand in Michael's and intertwining their fingers.
They walked in silence, they had so many things they wanted to say. So many things they needed to say. But those things could wait, right now they just wanted to enjoy being with each other.
