Episode 8: Texas Wrestling League
(Nick “Destructo” Tuatarra, Rick “The Monster” Williams and Spade “Twisted Metal” Williams)
Monster: What’s up, guys?
TM: Hey, Rick.
Nick: Good to see you guys again.
Monster: Likewise. So, Spade, what’cha got there?
TM: A medium-well T-Bone, green beens and a churro.
Monster: Jesus, you and those churros…
TM: They’re delicious!
All three laugh.
TM: I’m serious! Ever since Travis [Tex Hampton] introduced me to them, I can’t get enough of them!
Monster: What about you, Nick?
Nick: I got a flank steak with mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, and this weird-looking pudding. What the hell is this?
TM: Banana pudding.
Nick: Banana pudding. I don’t want that shit.
Monster: I’ll take it.
Monster takes the small bowl of banana pudding from Nick.
TM: (laughs) Cindy’s [Johnson] gonna kill you.
Monster: Geez, I haven’t had a dessert in years! I’m due for one!
All three laugh.
TM: Rick, what’d you get? I see Texas 5-Alarm chili, a huge hunk of cornbread and Nick’s banana pudding.
Monster: Damn right! I love chili. My wife loves to keep me away from it though.
TM: I’m not surprised, especially after your heart attack back in 2004.
Monster: Yeah.
Nick: Yeah, I remember that.
Monster: Yeah, it was about two weeks before WrestleMania XX. I was set to face Quent-Incredible, defending my World Heavyweight Championship. Dave Daniels wanted to cancel the match, but I said no because it was already known backstage that I was retiring after ‘Mania. Cindy was pissed at me for going through with the match, but I went out on my own terms, and that’s all I ever wanted.
Nick: So what prompted you to come out of retirement in 2010?
Monster: I was just on a legend’s deal. You know, making appearances and signing autographs and shit, but seeing all those new superstars in the ring just made me want to get back in there. I had dropped a ton of weight after my heart attack. I was so much healthier at the time, so I asked Quincy [McDonald] and Dave [Daniels] how would they feel if I came back and they both were excited.
TM: I know I was because I was missing being on the road with you. I rode with nobody after you left, not even Nick. Like, none of the boys that I came up with.
Monster: I didn’t miss the road, but I did miss seeing you guys every day. Was it the same for you, Nick, when you retired?
Nick: Yeah. When I retired in 2007, I was relieved. I didn’t have to be on the road anymore, no more late flights, early rides; I was done! I did the legend’s deal for a couple of years before leaving the business altogether.
Monster: And, finally, Spade is retired!
Monster and Nick applaud as Twisted Metal laughs.
