Episode 9: VGW Authority Figures (Pete Baxter, Katherine Daniels and Christian Lochlan)

Katherine: Hello, gentlemen.

Christian: Hey, Katherine.

Pete: How's it going?

Katherine: So….VGW2K18...how was it being back on-screen for you two?

Christian: It was fun! I got a lot of heel heat, but I had a blast.

Pete: Yeah, me too.

Katherine: How was it when you first got the call to come back to TV?

Christian: I was actually shocked. I got the call to come back for 2K17. That small appearance was to set up for my debut into VGW2K18.

Pete: Well, for me, it was a fun idea, but I was nervous about getting back into storylines and everything. Back in ‘06-’07, the fans would throw stuff at me. It was crazy.

Katherine: Oh, my gosh.

Pete: So, I was definitely nervous if anybody would, one: throw anything at me, or two: even remember me.

Christian: Well, they definitely remembered you!

BREAK

Katherine: I remember the angle we did back in 2010, when you came back briefly and had me arrested during one show and the police escorted me while Jason [Chevrelle] was just coming in. He had no idea that this was an angle and almost fought the police.

Pete: (laughs) Yeah, luckily the cameras went to commercial before it got too bad.

Katherine: Yeah, my dad [Dave Daniels] made that call about me getting arrested and bringing you in at the last minute.

Pete: Yeah, it was insane. The first run in ‘06 was bad, but it wasn't as bad as 2010. I'm glad that one was cut short. There was no real direction, no real story behind it, so when it ended, I was so relieved.

Katherine: So, Christian? What got you into wrestling?

Christian: Umm, a crap shoot. I knew I wanted to be in entertainment, but not wrestling. I mean, I was athletic enough to pass in the performance center, but my attitude was so bad, no one wanted to work with me. I would skip out on matches when training was too painful or if I was too tired. A lot of the boys got mad at me for complaining so much. I had no idea how much the guys work when they're hurt.

Katherine: Oh, yeah. They do.

Christian: I had no idea what pro wrestling was truly like, so that's why my 2012 TV debut was disastrous. We played off of that in my 2017 return against Terry Bison, and it worked so much better this time around.

Pete: I have a question for you, Katherine.

Katherine: Mm-hmm?

Pete: Was wrestling a first love for you?

Katherine: Oh, yeah! Our dad got us into wrestling early. My dad and Eric [Daniels] were so into the matches, but I was caught up in the crazy outfits, like the flashy robes and shiny tights, and I was glad to see women getting into ring.

Pete: What about running the company? Did you have aspirations to be in charge?

Katherine: Initially, I didn't, but seeing my mom [Infinity Daniels] do it made me want to. She taught me so much about the inner workings of the business. When my mom died in December ‘01, I was so distraught. I wanted nothing more to do with the business, but everybody had to participate in our first-ever Royal Rumble, which I won, entering in at #27. I went on to Wrestlemania X8 to win the Women's Championship, but I still wasn't fully invested in it, so I dropped the title at Backlash and quietly went back to the office.

Christian: But then you had the rivalry with Eric over the company.

Katherine: Yeah. I was chosen as the potential successor to my dad, as a part of the storyline, which led to me and Eric duking it out at Wrestlemania XIX. It wasn't for that position or anything, so when he won, that's when I was written off TV for a while. Then, in 2007, after Pete was “fired”, my dad relinquished his control to me, and I was the on-screen boss again.

Pete: So, when did Quincy [McDonald] assume control of VGW again, out of kayfabe?

Katherine: It was 2013. Before that, Quincy gave our family the reigns as he was performing, but when dad and I no longer wanted the responsibility and Eric continued to wrestle, we decided to hand it back to him.

BREAK

Katherine: So, Christian, what's next for you?

Christian: After VGW20, I'm done with wrestling.

Katherine: Oooh! Spoilers??

Christian: Yes, people! My final pro wrestling appearance will be at VGW20!

Katherine: What about you, Pete?

Pete: I'll only be back if I'm inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Christian: Really?

Pete: Yeah, why not? I've done a lot in this business. I've been a referee, a wrestler, an owner, a ring announcer--

Christian: Ever did commentary?

Pete: Commentary, attire design, booking, hell, I've even been a cameraman at some local promotions around Texas and Arkansas.

Katherine: Wow! I never knew that!

Pete: Yeah, I'm done. Let the new people work. I'm tired!

All three laugh.

Christian: What about you, Katherine?

Katherine: Unfortunately, I won't be at VGW Supremacy, but I will be at VGW20! Umm, as far as future appearances? Maybe, I don't know. Definitely will do Hall of Fame, but right now, I enjoy my position on the board, raising my daughter, and just having a normal life away from the spotlight.

Christian: You and Jason having anymore kids?

Katherine: Maybe. We're definitely not opposed to it.

Pete: How's he doing, by the way?

Katherine: He's fine. Just taking a breather right now.

Pete: I know we're running out of time, this restaurant’s about to close, but will he be at VGW20?

Katherine: Actually, I'm not sure. You know the whole thing with him being discouraged about being around the community creations superstars? That's real. He's was definitely down about that, and he's not telling me if he's going to be there or not.

Christian: She's deflecting!

Pete: She sure as hell is!

All three laugh.

Katherine: I swear to God, he is so tight-lipped about it! He won't say anything!

Christian: Uh-huh, sure!

The waiter walks in.

Waiter: I'm sorry, everyone, but we are about to close.

Pete: Excuse me?? What was that?? I don't speak idiot!

Christian laughs as Katherine hangs her head down in embarrassment. The waiter walks off.

Katherine: Oh, my God, Pete.

Pete: What? I was joking.
