Table for 3
Episode 4: Black Girl Magic (Kelcy Laurens, Jazmine Nelson, and Natasha Lassiter)
Jazmine: Sup, ladies?
Natasha: I'm good.
Kelcy: everything's good, Jaz.
Jazmine: all right, so let's get this started. What’d you get, Tasha?
Natasha: I got wild rice and tofu with cauliflower.
Jazmine: and you, Kels?
Kelcy: chicken parmesan with broccoli and cheese.
Natasha: and you, Jaz?
Jazmine: baked chicken, a baked potato and a Caesar salad.
Kelcy: (giggles) speaking of “baked”, I have to ask you ladies, have any of you ever met Mistah Grass?
Jazmine: No.
Natasha: I have. He is hilarious!
Kelcy: Right?!
Natasha: As soon as we walked passed each other, I knew right away this guy was a character.
Kelcy: Yeah, and his wife so nice, too.
Jazmine: Yeah, now I actually met her at Christmas Slam. She's so sweet.
Natasha: Yeah, except when Grass is on trouble.
Kelcy: Oh, God! Tasha, do you remember when she got pissed off at him about something?
Natasha: Oh my goodness, yes!
Kelcy & Natasha: (yell mockingly) William!!!
All three women laugh.
BREAK
Jazmine: Speaking of girlfriends and wives, Natasha, you had a bit of an issue back in 2K14 with Isaiah Parker and his girlfriend.
Natasha: (sighs) Yeah, I did. I was paired up with Zay just as a manager, then the idea later came to make us an on-screen couple. There was a spot in his match against Kevin [Stanton] where he knocks me down and Zay comes and checks on me. Then after the match, he kisses me, but his girlfriend saw that and was pissed. I had to reassure her multiple times that we were acting, but she wasn't having it.
Jazmine: But they eventually worked it out with those two, right?
Natasha: Yeah, it did. I will admit, Zay was kinda cute.
Jazmine and Kelcy laugh.
Natasha: I'm serious! He was!
Jazmine: Really, Tree?
Natasha: Oh, God, please don't call me that! All my brothers used to call me “Tree” because I'm so tall. I'm the youngest of five with four older brothers and they were so mad that I was taller than them by 21. And being 6’, it was so hard to date.
Kelcy: Well, I know someone who's had their eye on you for a while.
Natasha: Who?
Kelcy: Chard.
Natasha: Melchard Caranto?!
Jazmine & Kelcy: Yes!!!
Natasha: (blushing) Oh, my gosh. Really?
BREAK
Jazmine: So, Kelcy? How's the married life?
Kelcy: it's great. Me and Quincy are coming up on five years a week after the 20th Anniversary Event in July.
Natasha: Wow, five years.
Kelcy: (giggles) Yeah.
Jazmine: How's Nay-Nay [Renee] doing?
Kelcy: She's fine, she's fine. She's four years old now and she's so precious.
Natasha: Yeah. You need to bring her on the road some more.
Kelcy: No, I can't. She's got school now.
Jazmine: Okay, I've gotta ask because there was a lot of speculation about Quincy’s divorce from Janet Houston.
Kelcy: Mm-hmm?
Jazmine: You were around them a lot because Janet was training you. Did you see any indication that she was cheating on Quincy?
Kelcy: No, none whatsoever. Everything seemed normal around their house.
Natasha: How did you and Quincy get so close after the divorce?
Kelcy: Well, everybody swore up and down that I broke their marriage. Not true. Now, first of all, I was fan of the Chronicle Psycho character but not as much as the Status Quo character, so I was always asking him questions about the business and all of that, and that's how we got close, like brother and sister. When he was going through his divorce, I was going through my breakup with Trent [Cooper]. We would confide in each other and got even closer. We didn't actually give romance a chance until a year after his divorce.
Jazmine: Oh, okay.
Kelcy: The only thing that was weird was that Janet stopped training me after Quincy found out about her cheating and her son [Kevin] not being his.
Natasha: Wow.
Kelcy: Now, we're all good, all on good terms. Quincy still spends a lot of time with Kevin. Everything's all good.
BREAK
Natasha: So, how did Black Girl Magic come about? What made you think of that?
Jazmine: Well, basically it was The New Day that inspired me. It was them and the song “Black Girl Magic” by Chrisette Michele. I thought it was such a good idea and a positive thing for not just black women, but women in general. I think it showed woman empowerment through free expression, like when we go down to the ring and dance and twerk, it's not just being silly; it's pretty much us being ourselves.
Kelcy: Yeah, a lot of people thought our stable was a racist move by VGW, not knowing that it was your idea.
Jazmine: Yeah, it really irked me when not only other races didn't understand what we were doing, but our own race didn't understand.
Natasha: But the best thing about Black Girl Magic is that there were a lot of black parents that told us that they have daughters who look up to us and they thanked us for inspiring their girls to embrace themselves.
Kelcy: Yeah, that was so sweet.
Jazmine: (tears up) Yeah, because I was that kid growing. I was told I was ugly because my skin was so dark and the whole deal. And I have to thank you two because Black Girl Magic wouldn't have worked without you. The fact that you two are both a different shade of black made the group work.
All three giggle and tear up a little.
Jazmine: (sniffles) And to be honest, I didn't know if you guys were gonna judge my skin color or not because it's almost the norm in the black community: dark skin versus light skin, but you two welcomed me with open hearts and I appreciate you both.
Natasha: Of course, Queen.
Kelcy: We appreciate you too, Jaz.
All three wipe their tears and compose themselves.
Kelcy: Well, this was cleansing.
Natasha and Jazmine giggle and sniffle.
Kelcy: What do you say we wrap this up and kick some Misfit ass?
All three burst out laughing.
Jazmine: (laughing) Fucking Lodestar!
Natasha: I wonder when their wedding is.
Kelcy: We'll probably know soon enough.
All three laugh.
THE END!
