Episode 2: Powerhouse Women

(Trisha “Amazonia” Milton, Julie Gresham, and Sierra)

Julie: Hey, ladies.

Amazonia: Hey, Jules.

Sierra: What's up?

Julie: Isn't great being on the road again?

Amazonia: Yeah, it is. When I heard that the originals were coming back to VGW, I was definitely worried about not being asked back.

Sierra: Yeah, me too.

The waiter brings in their plates.

Amazonia: Damn, Sierra! A whole rack of ribs?

Sierra: Ain't nobody said anything about that big-ass t-bone on your plate.

All three ladies laugh.

Amazonia: So, Julie, you’re homegrown talent in VGW. Have you ever wrestled in the indies?

Julie: No, I never wrestled on the indy scene. I was trained by my dad, started at the age 13, and in 2008, I went straight to NXT season one. The original plan was to get five male rookies and five female rookies, but VGW couldn't get enough women to join, so they got 10 male rookies that were all homegrown, graduating from the Rage School of Wrestling. Natasha [Lassiter] and I were the only women that joined, so we were given contracts right away.

Sierra: Yeah, and you two debuted at Wrestlemania 25.

Julie: Yeah. It was a great moment for us both, because coming in, a lot people shamed us. They said I was too fat, Natasha was too tall. I mean, nobody liked us.

Amazonia: I do remember two “divas” fat-shaming you on social media back in 2010.

Julie: Yeah, Brooke Anderson and Christie Pierce.

Sierra: Oh, shit.

Julie: Yeah, and when Tiffany Miranda heard about that, she shut that down. I mean at the time, Tiff was like a mother to us all. She made sure that we uplifted each other and kept in contact with all of us, no matter where we were. Heather James actually got into a fight with Christie over the whole fat-shaming incident.

Amazonia: I remember that. It was the one time I actually had to restrain somebody and keep them from killing someone.

Julie: Now, with Christie, I just kinda took it because not only is she this beautiful, fashion model looking chick, but she has had extensive and brutal wrestling training from the Rage family, but to hear it from a professional ring valet like Brooke, it really pissed me off. She's never won a match, never won a title, never even trained properly.

Sierra: Yeah, I hated that bitch. I ran into her all the time in the indies.

Amazonia: Yeah, but she's gone, never to be heard from again.

BREAK

Amazonia: So, Sierra? You and I started out together back in Texas Wrestling League.

Sierra: Right.

Amazonia: Did you experience any fat-shaming there?

Sierra: Nope. Not at all. In fact, although I was supposed to be a heel, I got cheered a lot, especially by little girls who were in the audience. I didn't experience it until I got to VGW, but it was by the fans, not the locker room. It was actually Julie who was inspiration to take the VGW offer in the first place because I saw how confident and happy she was in the ring and, you know, being a heavy-set woman in this business can be scary.
