Table For 3
Episode 6: New York Xtreme Wrestling (Paul Collins, Tyrell “The Artist” Reese, and Kenneth “K-OS” Preston)
Artist: Gentleman, welcome.
Paul: What's up, Ty?
K-OS: Hey, guys. Wow, I'm not used to fancy-shmancy restaurants like this. I think I took Vickie [Malone] out to a place like this once.
Artist: Only once?
K-OS: Yeah. I think it was the night I proposed to her back in 2004. Me and Vick were never into fancy restaurants and stuff like that, so when I took her there, she knew that it was special.
Artist: Awww…
Paul: How'd you guys meet? Was it in NYX?
K-OS: Yeah, actually, The Clown introduced us.
Artist: Really?!
K-OS: Yeah, he did. Phil [Horne] had always been a good friend of mine since middle school. One day, he came up to me and was like, “Hey, Kenny! You gotta meet this girl!” Now, Phil was actually dating Vick’s friend at the time was trying to pawn me off so he could score with her, but little did I know that we'd hit it off.
Paul: (laughs) That's crazy, because I think I remember the girl that Phil was dating. They broke up, right?
K-OS: Yeah, right before he went back to VGW in 2005?
Artist: Wait… “back to VGW”?
K-OS: Yeah, Phil actually started out in VGW back in 2003. He was like the kids’ birthday party type clown for a bit, then went to AFW for a few months, and then to NYX.
Artist: Wow, I didn't realize that!
BREAK
K-OS: Paul, I remember when the second VGW NXT season was starting, you came aboard.
Paul: Right.
K-OS: You were the only indy guy in that group, right?
Paul: No, but I was the first. Akane [Sakamoto] and Javier [Salcedo] were there also, but everybody else was homegrown.
Artist: I remember the first season, EVERYBODY was homegrown talent.
Paul: True, so when I came on season two, the audience started to get more invested because I had been known around the world.
K-OS: You know, Brody Robinson is now known as “The King of the Indies”, but I think you've got the bigger indy trail than he does.
Paul: Yeah, I've probably wrestled in more territories than he has, maybe one or two, and he's got about eight more years of experience than me. The only promotions that I actually signed to are Chicago Hardcore Wrestling and NYX. Everywhere else, I made numerous guest appearances.
K-OS: Yeah, I remember actually working a CHW show back in 2003 while with NYX. It was pretty cool.
Artist: I never wrestled anywhere else while I was with NYX.
Paul: Really?
Artist: Nowhere. Only when NYX got shut down did I go anywhere and everywhere else.
K-OS: Damn, you were loyal.
Artist: Well, of course! That's where I got my start! I was in the first match of the first event and the first match of the last event. I was that constant in NYX. Never held the heavyweight title, but I was okay with that. I crafted my own legacy by being the only three-time TV champ and the longest-reigning for eleven months and two days.
