He was here. Toothless was here. I don't think he recognized me though. I could tell he was scared. He did see me free the Deadly Nadder though.
The raid was even worse from down here. Any dragons I couldn't get to to free were killed and turned human. It was horribly disgusting.
I saw Astrid knock down a Monstrous Nightmare with a net. I recognized the Nightmare as Hookfang. He and Toothless didn't get along that much but I couldn't let her end him.
I ran forward as fast as I could. "Stop! Don't kill him!" I yell. I don't think she heard me.
She raises her axe, poised to attack. "Astrid, stop!" I yell again. These human legs were useless. As a dragon I might be able to get there in time to save him.
It happened as though in slow motion. I couldn't get there to save him. She brought her axe down, striking his chest and heart.
"No!" It was like my legs gave out. I'd seen it happen before but down here it was worse. I could see the life drain from him as the blood did. I saw his form shrink down to that of a human.
The next emotion that came was anger. No, not anger. Rage.
I got up slowly, making my way over to Astrid with a glare painted on my face. "How could you?" I practically scream. She turns when she hears my voice but I tackle her to the ground before she can say anything. I see her axe leave her hand and skid away.
"Get off me!" She screams at me.
I remembered I had a knife. I keep her pinned with one hand and draw the knife with another. "You killed him!"
"Yes, I know that!"
I hold the knife at her throat. "Then perhaps I should get revenge for him." I growl. I wasn't usually this violent but this battle had become personal now. Maybe she'd understand if she lived in a dragons skin.
Her eyes widen. "You wouldn't dare." She said.
I pressed it closer. "Don't test me."
I could read the fear written in her expression. "I wouldn't have to do this is if you didn't kill dragons. Not only that but you helped capture me, you helped bring me here and now you've killed another. An innocent dragon. A dragon that has no desire to be one of you. Maybe it's time you learn what it's like to be one of us."
"Don't even think about it! I'm only doing what is expected of us. You can't change that. Whatever happens, happens. You can't change what has already been done."
"Then maybe it's time that changed. Maybe it's time you learned what it's like."
I did it so quickly that I barely had time to blink. But I'll admit, I immediately regretted it. It was almost like watching Hookfangs death but even closer and it happened even faster because humans have less blood. She turned into a beautiful Nadder, red and blue with hints of yellow.
I got away as quick as possible. I knew how they reacted when first waking up. Lots of fire.
Also, let me clear something up. If you die you become whatever species you aren't. If you're human, you become a dragon and if you're dragon then you become a human. The cycle repeats until old age with a few exceptions. If you're beheaded, you don't come back, that's it forever. And if you kill yourself to go back to the other species that it as well. Your life will end without it changing back to what you wanted to be and you're dead forever. That's why I haven't done that.
I was right about the fire. When she woke up, now in the form of a dragon, several houses were burned to the ground. She took off soon after, clearly scared, frightened and confused. She'd come back. Eventually.
Dawn was breaking and the dragons started to leave. I searched the skies for Toothless but didn't see him in the swarm of dragons. I hadn't heard any commotion about a Night Fury so I could only assume he was okay.
I walk into the hut that I shared with Valka. And Stoick... I still didn't like him very much. He always got mad whenever I talked about life as a dragon. It pissed him off.
It was bugging me. I had to say it. "I killed her..."
Stoick looks at me. "What? Killed who?"
I looked him dead in the eye, knowing he would be mad.
"Astrid."
His eyes filled with rage. "You killed one of your own?!" He yelled furiously.
"No, she killed one of my own! I killed a Viking!"
"You're not a dragon! You're a viking! You killed one of your own!"
"I never asked to be a Viking!" I growl.
"Well you are one, get over it! It's who you are now!"
"Never." I say, glaring daggers at him.
"Too bad. It's who you are now."
"I don't think so." I say, getting up.
I storm out. It was ridiculously unfair to be stuck here. I wanted to be out there with Toothless. I wanted to fly with him, to fish with him. I missed him. I could only assume he missed me too. We were inseparable but now we were separated.
I walk blindly into the forest. It was quieter here, and beautiful. I could hear the birds chirping and small animals rustling in the undergrowth.
I walked further, lost in thought when I came across a cove. Bird chirps echoed as they flew around. I could see fish rippling the surface of the pond that sat in the middle of it. As I got closer I saw something I really didn't want to see.
"Toothless?!"
