If you asked anyone else they'd say I was destined to be a famous actress. The reason I'm such a good actress is because I've grown up knowing how pretend. I had always been the best at that. Pretending I cared when my friend broke up with her asshole of a boyfriend for the fifth time. Pretending to not see the posters of Rachel Amber hanging up desperately crying for help at me, because if I look at them for too long I know I'll break down into tears. Pretending to have someone who cared about me when the guidance counsellor would ask to talk. Pretending I have money and a big happy family with a dog and a cat who'd use the little flappy door in the backyard of our suburban house on our happy little street. Pretending to be happy.
As an actor it's my job to pretend, but I never intended for it to become my life.
I'm usually alone at this school, and it fucking sucks.
I had friends, and we'd always talk and hang out at parties. I was never one for the parties but they loved them and I liked the music so I would always go with them. Rachel and Chloe were my best friends, we would share our secrets with each other, but I knew they always had a secret they weren't telling me.
I grew too curious and over heard them talking. They were talking about leaving Arcadia Bay. Without me. I didn't understand why my best friends wouldn't trust me enough to invite me. That fact ate my soul up, but I would always smile and laugh.
I was alone. Until I met him.
Nathan Prescott. I knew him, everyone did, as he was notorious at Blackwell. We never talked, in fact he called me the annoying bitch who was too happy. I heard that while I was walking by them.
We became close after he caught me crying behind the school. He offered me a cigarette, and I took it. Just like me his life was a facade. He always acted tough, and strong but inside, he was just a breaking boy with daddy issues.
"I'm so sick of people trying to control me," he opened up to me. We were sitting, leaning against the wall and smoking a cigarette.
"I'm so sick of people assuming," I puffed out some smoke and leaned my head on his shoulder, letting tears fall from my face. "Assuming I'm okay, assuming I'm just perfect. No one ever asks about me. I'm breaking, Nathan."
He just patted my head as we sat in silence, watching the sun set before us. We were two facades covering up broken souls.
