Chapter 13

• Alex's POV •

She is impossible, unreachable... Plus she's with Cameron- I texted Sarah while looking for Jacob's leash.

Why are you being so negative, you never know what can happen!!! -Sarah replied immediately  adding a emoji looking desperate.

Im being realistic. I've been here for 2 months... I drool for her and she doesn't look at me twice:(

All right, don't be so hard on yourself, you are gonna make me cry- Sara texted sending a bunch of crying emojis, making me roll my eyes at the goofiness from her.

- Why the need of using so many emojis?!

Now you're making fun of me- I typed while looking for my sneakers, and then added- Sarah... We'll talk later I gotta walk Jacob.

Go walk Jacob, relax and we will continue tomorrow at lunch, ok?- the brunnete replied immediately.

Sure- I texted.

I keep my phone in my denim jeans put on a jacket.

   "Hey boy, let's go for a walk!" I say to Jacob who is laying on my bedroom floor. The golden retriever sprinted towards the door as soon as he heard those words.

I look through the window to see if the rain had cease a little, it has.

   "Don't start running like crazy, all right? You are new to the neighborhood" I say looking at Jacob as if he was gonna answer.

I put the cap of the jacket on and then we got out of the front porch. There was noone on the streets because of the heavy rain of early.

Jacob was just a puppy, still he was very smart, I was amazed by how fast he learn tricks and obey my instructions. I took off​ his leash and told him to walk by my side, usually I don't do that on the street only on parks but there were no cars so I took the risk.

It was pretty cold, the coldest night since we arrive to Pasadena, many of the trees didn't have much leaves left and the air was starting to feel chilly.

I look down to see how Jacob was behaving then realized he wasn't by my side. I panicked.

- how come I lost Jacob while thinking about the weather?

I turn back, maybe he stopped to do poop. nothing. I turn again to look forward and ten meters ahead of me was my puppy with a girl. The girl was soaked and her hair was a mess, her clothes too. I started walking slowly, none of them notice my presence, being at a prudential distance I stopped. She was caressing Jacob and he seemed to be enjoying it.

   "Jacob, we gotta go boy" I say to my dog trying to make my voice as harsh as I could, I didn't like strangers to get near my dog.
I couldn't see the girl's face because her hair was covering her features.

   "I'm sorry, he run up to me" the girl say with sweet voice I couldn't see the girl's face because her hair was covering her features "He is really cute"the girl put some strands of hair behind her ear and look up to me.

   "Elizabeth" I say in a breath "what are you doing out here in the rain?" The hazelnut eye girl stand up, looked at me and pressed her lips together.

   "I was walking home" she the answer barely audible. Rain drops stared to appear again and with each second they became more and more.

   "Weren't you taking dinner with Cameron?" I say with caution, she didn't look emotionally great either.

   "Yes but now I'm not" her voice sounded cold. Elizabeth wrapped her arms around her waist, like she was hugging herself "well, I should go".

   "But you still have a long way..."

   "It's not that long plus I'm already soaked"

   "You're going to get sick, my house is that one" I say point at my house, she hasn't stopped frowning since I mentioned Cameron "I can get you something hot and dry clothes"

   "I don't..."

   "C'mon I don't harm" I say thinking it twice.

Elizabeth laughed softly and accepted to go to my house, I put on Jacob's leash and we run to home. We were wet by then but still run.

- I should have brought an umbrella.

The first thing I did when we enter to the lonely house was giving Elizabeth a towel and some dry clothes, I gave her a jogger pants and an oversized hoddie she then went to get changed meanwhile I took another towel to dry Jacob and clean his paws, I change my clothes too and then lit up the chimney and prepare hot chocolate for us.

Elizabeth got out of the bathroom 40 minutes later, her hair was still kind of a mess, her eyes were shot red and she seemed desperate.

I wanted to ask if she was ok but probably she wanted space or won't tell why she was crying, because she definitely cried in the bathroom. I wanted to let her know I was to support her and be a friend.

   "Take this it will warm you up" I say instead of asking. I gave her a mug with hot chocolate.

   "Is this chocolate?" The girl infront of me asked hoarsely, I nod my head "I can't, I'm sorry, I am allergic to chocolate" Elizabeth hand me back the mug.

   "Are you serious?" I say mid laughing "how come someone be allergic to chocolate?"

   "It happens get over it" Elizabeth answer back, punching me in my arm "stop it, it's​ no fun"

Then we went to the kitchen and I offer her something else. She end up preparing herself a cup of tea, later we sat on the couch and play Grey's anatomy on the TV, Elizabeth seem more joyful than earlier.
We were on the second chapter when I couldn't hold the curiosity anymore.

   "May I ask something?" I say cautiously still looking at the series.

  "You may" Elizabeth say and turn to look at me, a small smile in her thin lips. Her eyes seem to brighten in the deem light we had.

  "What were you doing earlier in the rain?"

Jacob walked into the room and placed in Elizabeth's​ lap, the girl looked down at the Retriever and stared to caress the golden fur. She seem to hesitate, we spend some minutes in silence me looking at the TV and Elizabeth looking at Jacob, while the puppy was trying not to get asleep.

   "He likes you a lot" I say trying to change our conversation and not making the girl with hazel eyes uncomfortable.

  "I think he does" she said with a tone of sadness, we stayed silence for a few more minutes, it wasn't akward but I wanted to know, I wanted to help her "Sarah must have told you I was in a date with Cameron" she say still looking down.

   "Yeah, she did"

   "Well we were having dinner, I wasn't having much fun to be honest, Cameron was at his phone most of the time when all of a sudden he had to go, he didn't tell me why, he payed and left" she was now looking at me, her eyes were filled with anger and watery "it was already raining but I wanted to leave the restaurant, so I did and walked home"

   "You could have called someone" I say, slowly getting close to her "I could have go and pick you up" I say lastly.

   "I wanted to be alone" Elizabeth shot back, a sob scapes from her.

   "You still wanna be alone?" I asked.

Elizabeth didn't answer, we stay silent a couple of minutes again. Jacob was now deep in sleep and Grey's anatomy was finished, it was pass ten and I started to feel sleepy.

I lay my head back and close my eyes for a moment then feel a pair of arms hugging me and my immediate response was to embrace back and open my eyes.
Elizabeth lay her head in the crook of my  neck and said "No, I don't" she answered to my question and then started crying, I hug her tightly and stared caressing her back trying to comfort her, she snuggle closer to me until I could feel her body shivering. I stand up and brought a blanket and stared to comfort her again.
