"What are you saying?" Elena couldn't believe the words.
"Your husband Elijah is awake. If you have time, you can come to the hospital." Dr Kieran O'Connell said.
"Yes, of course. I am on my way."- Elena said hanging up, looking at the picture in her hand- tears of happiness falling down now. Still in daze, the brunette now got out of the room and meeting now her sister-in-law in the corridor with her daughter, Elena shot at them-
"Elijah is awake."
Rebekah, who stood still for a second said stunned, "What are you saying?"
"Elijah is awake" Elena repeated, now taking the child from her aunt as the girl wanted her mother.
"Daddy is awake!" Elena said to the child giving her a little squeeze.
Now, Rebekah started crying happy tears as the words sank in.
Needless to say, they all rushed into the hospital.
Though still weak and slightly confused, Elijah's eyes shone with happiness that Elena was there.
His memory was intact and these were the first thing he said as Elena hugged him-
"Please forgive me."
"Oh, Elijah! Shhshhh. I want you to meet someone."- Elena now said and turned to Rebekah, who held Dylan.
"This is Dylan. Our daughter." Elena said.
Elijah looked at his sister and the kid.
"I thought that - you"
"No, not yet. Well, there are news - loads of other news. Like I am getting married. And- oh, Kol got married- but this one - is your biggest news- yep- it's your daughter!"
Elena now put the child on the bed -and said,"It's Dylan's birthday- today"
Elijah looked at his wife, his sister and his daughter taken in.
There it was, the thing called life. Comes with all its ups and downs packaged up.
To err is hunan, someone said. Mistakes are made on a daily basis, small ones, big ones, some are forgivable, some are not. Depending on how mistakes are approached. If one recognizes them and rectifies them.

A year after
Dylan's second birthday
Elijah walked into the kitchen and said to Elena,"She is finally asleep. I don't think reading a story helps her fall asleep. I think that it makes her alert."
"She is like me. A good story has always kept me awake."- Elena said-"ok. I am done here."
Elena put the dishwasher on.
Elijah now turned to Elena as he took a drink of water.
"I think you have a bit of chocolate smidge here left"-

"How about some us time?"- Elijah slipped with a whisper.
"I'd love that"- Elena now took her husband by the hand and they both ventured out of the kitchen to their bedroom.
