"What are you doing here? And how come you got the key?" Elijah said pissed off at Hayley.

"I had it since the accident! Remember? You gave to me to get your clothes! I found it. And I was coming to return it to you and surprise you."

"I hate surprises. Ok. Huh- I am going to hit the shower. You can leave the key on the side. Thank you." Elijah said turning away, walking off.

"Well, thank you" Hayley said in an even more pissed off tone, getting out of the door slamming the door behind her.

In the bedroom, Elijah now got his phone calling Elena.

It went to voicemail.

"Elena, please, can we talk. This last night was very meaningful."

Elijah then went to the shower.

In her brother's apartment, after having showered, Elena saw the voicemail notifications. Having listened to it, Elena slipped, "Yeah, right. But Hayley has got your key."

"What key?" Jeremy said as he got out of his room yawning, "Mad night last night. Where did you end up?"

"Me? Ahm - Bonnie's." Elena fibbed.

"Isn't Bonnie in the Hamptons with Damon?"  Jeremy was not stupid.

"Yeah. Huh. I am going to - go have breakfast? Wanna come?"

"Yeah. Give me two minutes." Jeremy said.

At brunch, actually, Elena's phone had notification beeps coming nearly every minute, but she ignored.

"Who is sending you tones of messages? If you're not gonna answer them, put the silent mode on." Jeremy now said.

Elena took her phone out of the bag and saw Elijah on the display with the last message showing,

"This is not the way to say it - over the phone, but I am doing it. I think, no - know that I love you. And should have said it a year ago."

Elena looked at the message a bit gone out, which made Jeremy now wonder what had happened.

"Nothing" Elena slipped.

"It's not nothing because I know you and you would not have a mouth open if it was nothing."

Elena now huffrd a bit, putting the phone on the table.

"It's something to do with that ex boss of yours. Tyler said he saw you at the Knicks game last night. You were with him, right?"

Though 3 years apart, Jeremy and Elena had a good relationship as they grew out of the teenage years. Moving to the big city like New York, they had always looked one after the other.

"He was not my boss. We worked together. We were colleagues. " Elena replied.

"This is about him, right? You know that he manwhore."

"Oh, Jeremy, shut up."

"Oh, God, Elena, you slept with him?"

"Yes." Elena didn't want to deny it, "I am 29. And - I am free. Got no boyfriend - anymore."

"What happened to Marcel?"

"We broke up. I am not in love with him." Elena said, Let's just drop it."

Elena now put her phone back to the bag.

The two siblings stayed a wile together finishing the brunch.

Elena then met up with Damon's brother Stefan, who took her with him to the Hamptons.

At the Hamptons, as Elena and Bonnie got together, the brunette told her friend about her one nighter with Elijah, and all his messages.

"You are kidding me?!"  Bonnie couldn't believe it. And how was he? "

"Bonnie?!!"

"Come on, Elena, you like dreamt of him since you stepped foot in that Firm."

Elena dreamy look and the way she now kind of bit her lip, indicated to her friend that it was a hot night.

"And he wrote to you that he loved you? Show me the message." Bonnie requested.

"This can't be real. Why wouldn't he tell me if he was into me. It doesn't make any sense. This is Elijah. He has no trouble talking. You should see him in a litigation. He charmes like any woman when he talks."

"Maybe when it comes to real feelings it is hard to get the words out." Bonnie now said.

"What?"

"Yep."

"But - and now he wrote it. Now! - it's ridiculous."  Elena shook her head.

"You said that he could always like to talk to you. That you could laugh. And he never made move on you -"

"Yeah - so - where is all this coming from?" - Elena interrupted Bonnie., who now continued her thought,"which totally now makes sense."

"Makes sense?"

"If he wanted to just have sex with you, he would have done it already ages ago. You said, that went with Gia, a few days after you both got started work in the Firm?!"

"Yeah. Ok. Even if - he had feelings for me all this time, and he could not tell them or face them - or I din't jnow what- he had no problems sleeping with all these other women. HUH - why did I fall for him! Argh!" Elena now got up and went walking down to the beach. Bonnie didn't follow her as she thought it was best if her friend be alone to let some steam out.
And she had to now go talk to Damon about the dinner party they were holding that night.

In the meantime, as Elena wrestled with her heart, Stefan was on thec hone to no other than Elijah, who he had befriended, as they worked on a big case, and due to the fact that he had fallen for his sister Rebekah.

"Yeah, come on down to the dinner. It's just friends getting together. Elena is here. You know her. She worked at your Firm. Yeah. Sure, if your brother and sister are here, great. Give him a call and come over."

When Elijah had heard that Elena was there, he Immediately jumped up and took up the invitation. Hanging up, he now called Klaus, who was with his girfriend at their house at the Hamptons.

Needless to say, an hour or so later, as Elena returned from the beach and got changed for the dinner party, she was in totL shock seeing Elijah arrive with his siblings.

Pulling Bonnie on the side a little she asked her friend to explain what was going on.

"Stefan invited them. He just told me and you know that Damon and are always ok with his friends."

"Since when is he friends with them?"  Elena was gobsmacked.

"They started hanging out just before Christmas. Stefan and Elijah worked together." Bonnie explained quickly.

She then went to greet them. Soon, Elena and Elijah were face to face exchanging just a little hey followed by emotions flaring inside of them, lost in a stare.
