Elena straightened her flawless little black dress, checking herself up in the mirror.
"Less is more,"she muttered as she placed a necklace on, finally deciding she was not going to wear it.
Stepping away from the long mirror, she ran her hands through her hair, ruffling it a bit.
She was going on an official date with Elijah Mikaelson. Never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined anything like that. Life, as she knew was an ever evolving, winding road and she had already tasted its yellow bricks bringing her happiness, sadness, craziness, to say the least. And this shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary. In many ways it wasn't and in some ways it was.
Elijah Mikaelson was not just any vampire. Being with a Mikaelson carried great weight. But then again, for years they have been looking after Hope. They were all connected to the Mikaelsons one way or the other.
Flashback
Earlier that day
As Bonnie trailed off to meet the Dean of Whitmore college, Elena and Caroline went to shop for their respective dates.
"So, you've finally saud yes to Eric?" Elena said with a small teasing chuckle.
"Yes. I'm so nervous - and I don't know why. It's not even a serious date. We're just going to hang out at the Grill." Caroline huffed.
"You two are good together. He gets you and he has been so great with the School. Plus he is pretty fit and sweet."
"He is, isn't he?! Oh, Lena, I actully really like him." Caroline flashed back to the staff meeting the other day.

Eric Northam was a syphoner witch-vampire that came to the School with Valerie. And as Elena said, he was a good soul. But same as Elena, after Stefan and Damon gave their lives to stop Hell being unleashed by the Armory, letting herself fall in love again was left way down on the list. Encouraged by seeing Bonnie and Sidney wrapped in their fluffy happy cloud, she finally agreed to go out with Eric.
"So, this thing with Elijah could be serious?"
"I don't know - yeah. It feels so good. I'm like - feel this buzzing inside of me - last night it was - total magic. I kind of still don't believe that I was with him." Elena said stopping for a moment. She had sparkles in her eyes.
"You are totally in love." Caroline remarked.
Now, making a little sigh, Elena smiled. Yes, she was in love and life felt good again.
As the doorbell went, she quickly picked up her wrap and went down to meet her date.
Swinging the door open, her nervousness disappeared and she greeted Elijah with warmly accepting the bouquet of the prettiest wildflowers there were.
