Awsten had dyed his hair over the weekend. He had gotten the idea from the jock at school: Geoff. He had had a major crush on the blue-eyed boy for at least a year and it was getting increasingly hard to manage. Geoff was very nice to Awsten, which only helped his cause. Also, he often spoke to Awsten often when they waited outside of their classrooms. Recently Awsten had overheard Geoff mention that his favourite colour was purple. Awsten then dyed his hair to try and get his attention. It was a lovely lilac and Awsten loved it - he hoped Geoff would, too. All day, Awsten had been trying to walk past Geoff, so he'd notice and perhaps give a complement.
Awsten had no classes with Geoff today. He became very frustrated that he couldn't find the floppy haired dude. In fact, Awsten had convinced his friends to sit outside at lunch because thats where Geoff would be. His friends made their objections known.
"I know you're my best friend and everything, but sometimes I really hate you." His friend Otto grumbled, shooing a pigeon away from the table they were sat at. Awsten was still looking around, searching for Geoff, too busy to care.
Awsten sighed when he couldn't find Geoff. He ate his lunch and stewed over today's failure. "All I want is for him to see my hair! Is that so much to ask for?" Awsten whined. Right then an apple core came flying through the air and hit him on the back of the head. He looked back to see who had thrown it, but no one looked suspicious. He sighed again, touching the back of his hair to make sure there was no apple in it. "Today has been a failure, I'm sorry y'all had to sit outside." He threw his trash away; not feeling like eating.
Otto put his hand on Awsten's shoulder and tried to console him. "He'll see it at some point and I know that some day he's gonna ask you out and you guys are gonna have a million cute babies." Awsten laughed, feeling somewhat better. "And anyway, you got an A on your history essay, today was not a total bust." Otto continued. Awsten smiled and nodded.
By the end of the day, Awsten had given up on trying to get Geoff's attention. He had so far walked all over school, taken the longest routes to class and gone everywhere that Geoff should be. He is in school, Otto said he saw him. Awsten was inconsolable as he walked through the doors and made his way through the carpark... Or so he thought. He felt a shoulder brush against his and the musky smell he had learned to love. He looked up, beaming. It was Geoff.
"Nice hair, Aws, purple is my favourite colour." Geoff smiled, making Awsten blush. Geoff looked at the blushing boy, smirking a little.
Awsten resisted saying 'I know' and actually managed to say a normal thing. "Thank you, I dyed it last night. It came off on my pillows." He laughed, subconsciously raking his fingers through the soft strands.
Geoff didn't miss a beat and responded with, "Maybe one day I can get to see those sheets." He didn't give any time for Awsten to acknowledge the flirting. Instead, continuing with, "Can I?" Geoff pointed to Awsten's hair. Awsten nodded, loving the close contact. Geoff ruffled Awsten's hair, making him giggle loudly. Awsten blushed a dark vermillion, making Geoff laugh. "Anyway," Geoff dropped his hand, much to Awsten's disappointment. "Do you need a ride home?"
Awsten turned to him and grinned, "That would be great, thank you." Awsten was extremely grateful, he would've been even if he didn't like Geoff.
"No problem. It's the least I can do, since you dyed your hair my favourite colour. Especially 'cause I stare at you all the time." Geoff smirked and unlocked his Honda, climbing in. Leaving Awsten nonplussed on the path before he, himself, got into the car.
