I'm sad so here we are.
Tears stream down Awsten's face as he is yelled at down the phone. Him and Mark have been fighting over Geoff for a long time now. Mark keeps telling Awsten to stay away from him, but he can't do that to his best friend. This time, Mark is yelling at him because he saw Geoff giving him a piggy back ride.
"You're nothing but a useless whore, you're lucky I put up with you 'cause no one else will." Mark shouts.
Awsten, who's sat on his bed drowned in blankets and tears, listens on. He believes every word that Mark says. He hears a ding coming from his laptop and sees that Geoff has messaged him on Skype: Hey, I wanna see you. Call me 📞😉
"You should feel lucky that I stay with you!" Mark continues, but the words seem fuzzy as Awsten thinks about what to do regarding Geoff's message. He needs his best friend, but Mark says that he spends too much time with Geoff.
With a surge of confidence, Awsten simply hangs up. He has never done that to anybody before, not even cold callers. He calls Geoff on Skype and hurriedly tries to dry his tears. The call is accepted and in a second he is face to face with his best friend.
"Hey, Sunshine!" He exclaims and Awsten just bursts into tears. Mark was right, he is awful, he doesn't deserve anyone. "Wait, Lovely, what's wrong?" Geoff's eyes hold only sympathy and he tries to figure out what's going on.
Awsten rubs at his eyes desperately, but only irritates them. Through sobs he manages to choke out, "M-Mark is-is angry at me!" He wails the last part and Geoff clenches his fists.
Geoff has never liked Mark. He's controlling and manipulative and Awsten is blind to it. "Sweetheart, you know he isn't important." Geoff tries to mask his anger and soothe Awsten; apparently it works.
Awsten opens his mouth to say something, but his phone rings. By the look on his face, Geoff can tell it's Mark. A rush of impulsion guides Geoff to say, "Answer it." Awsten's eyes shoot to him, big and wild. "Put it on speaker. I wanna hear." Awsten gives an uneasy smile and answers it.
The second it connects Mark is shouting. Awsten flinches hard and Geoff instantly regrets making him answer it. Tears rush down Awsten's face again and Geoff can't stand it. Awsten sees Geoff stand up with his fists balling and unballing. He disconnects and Awsten is left on his own with a harsh voice coming out of his phone. Against his better judgement, he listens this time and cries harder.
What feels like hours later, Awsten hears his bedroom door close. Awsten turns to look at a blurry figure coming towards him and it takes his phone away from his ear. The figure wraps and arm around Awsten and speaks into the phone. "Hey Mark, it's Geoff. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't hurt Awsten, emotionally or physically, so that I don't have to come to your house and slit your throat. Don't call again or else you'll be drinking coffee that tastes awfully sour and then shitting yourself in your sleep."
Geoff hangs up the phone and brings Awsten down to the floor with him, so that he can lean against the bed and Awsten can sit in his lap. His arms wrap perfectly around Awsten and he can't help but wish they could sit like this forever.
"He doesn't deserve you, you're so wonderful." Geoff coos as he threads his fingers through Awsten's hair. He utters more soothing things until Awsten stops crying. "You deserve better." Geoff says, then mutters into Awsten's hair, "I could give you better." It's very quiet, but Awsten hears it.
"Huh?" He asks softly, hoping that he didn't make up those words. Hoping that it wasn't just a breeze.
Geoff goes bright red immediately. "You weren't supposed to hear that. I shouldn't have said that. I'm sorry." He busies himself with the bottom of his shirt, while he waits for anything to happen.
"I—" Awsten starts, but loses the guts to finish. He leaves it until Geoff sniffs. He's going to cry. "I know you could give me better... But, do you want to?"
Geoff's head shoots up. "Yes. Of course I do. It's all I've ever wanted." Geoff looks down after his sudden outburst and continues his red tinge.
"I want this. Us." Awsten says.
Geoff looks up, "Then why date Mark?" He gently takes Awsten's hands in his own larger ones.
"To stop me from obsessing over my best friend." Awsten states as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"Well, now you won't have to, will you?" Geoff smirks, rubbing Awsten's nose with his.
"I don't know, it was pretty bad. I wrote songs about you." Awsten warns.
Geoff's jaw drops, "I have to hear them! I bet they're amazing." Geoff hugs Awsten tightly, protectively.
"Maybe." Awsten says. Geoff is okay with that.
