Star's POV
My heavy eyelids fluttered open. I blinked a few times to assure myself I was awake. I also had some trouble remembering what was going on. It must've been too surreal. My eyes flew open wide when I realized I was clung onto Marco, my head shoved into his chest. His arms were wrapped around me, his chin resting gently on top of my head. Shi... My face burned a scarlet red as my wrapped arms wiggled around Marco. Staring up at him, unsure of what to do in such a pleasant situation, I noticed how beaten he looked. I must have too, judging by the sharp pains coming from my sides and the dried blood that was staining my nose.Marco squirmed slightly and sighed. Should I wake him up? Should I enjoy the moment? Shut up Star.... I continued to stare up at him, listening to his heart beat as I pressed my ear against his chest. I wanted to close my eyes and drift off into sleep again, but I knew we had to find Toffee and I knew that it was not going to be easy.
"Marco," I attempted to release the grip I had on him. It was a little tough, but not impossible.
"Marco," I repeated, reaching my hand up to his face. No Star! What're you doing? I quickly took my hand away and placed it on his shoulder instead.
"Wake up!" I shook him.
Marco's nose twitched and his eyes slowly opened until he comprehended what was happening. Then his eyes widened and he let go of me, "Woops! Haha.."
I noticed him blush and turn away from me.
"It's fine." I said whilst sitting up. In fact, continue to hold onto me like that again, Marco Diaz.I pat his cheek.
"I must be a real snuggle bug, huh?" I smiled at the stuttering boy beside me.
"S-snuggle bug?" Marco shyly looked at me. "That sounds about right."
"Now cmon, lets go find Toffee." I reached and grabbed my wand, gripping it.
"Lets," Marco got off the bed and followed me out the door.
"I wonder what this place is..." I looked around the huge castle, wondering what lucky royal family occupied it. Little did I know...
"I know it's a castle," Marco shrugged as I stared at him.
"Would've never guessed."
"Rude." He crossed his arms.
I stopped in front of Marco.
"I...I don't know if I can do this anymore. Having you here...I've put you through too much already and you've gotten hurt! And that was my fault..I just hate that I'm responsible for those cuts and bruises on you.""Star, there's no way I'm leaving you now. I mean...I've come too far to just leave. Plus, there's no way you can send me back until we reach Toffee. Then we'll leave together."
"Ugh, okay...you're right." I sighed and continued walking.
Marco huffed from behind me and I noticed a smile forming on his lips. The only thing that could make me look away from the beautiful smile was the deep, croaky voice that uttered threatening words towards us.
"Well if it isn't the Princess and the pauper."
The giant monster chuckled that was now standing in front of me. I squinted at him. "Where's Toffee?""Taking over your castle. He finally has the king and queen captured. But I wasn't ordered to tell you everything, I was ordered to send you home. Take a look around at what could've been yours before your parents decided you weren't good enough for them because I'm sending you away right now."
Marco and I were lifted in the air by two other monsters that snuck up behind us. We were thrown into a portal and the two of us landed in Marco's room.
"Are you okay?" Marco asked me right before a huge pair of scissors flew out of a second portal that appeared in his room and hit him against the head. "Ow!"
I reached for the scissors and held them up carefully. "Dimensional scissors."
"Dimensional what now?!" Marco rubbed his head in pain and I frowned at him.
"Are you—"
"Yes, I'm fine. How did we get those?" He stared at his reflection in the scissors.
"I-I think they dropped them in a portal purposely, but why? Did you hear everything they were saying about my parents? That castle we were in is pretty much mine and they have my parents, the queen and king, captured! I'm a princess!"
All of these new thoughts in my head became scrambled together and suddenly my mind hurt. I began to think about how the monsters were telling me how my parents disowned me because I wasn't good enough for them. That made my brain hurt even more. Was it true?
"I think they dropped the scissors on purpose because they know you'll come back to find your parents. I think they're planning to capture you too."
Marco had a fair point. It was obvious I would return out of curiosity and to save my parents. Who wouldn't? What was I going to do now anyways?
"We need more people on our side. Maybe we should travel to your..er..dimension..and find others to help us fight against these bad guys."
"We? No way Marco. You helping me ends here. I can't have you getting hurt anymore."Marco crossed his arms stubbornly and sighed, "Star, I basically adopted you. I think you're obligated to do what I say." He teased me and stuck his tongue out.
"Marco, I am so very thankful for you but there's no way on Earth I'd ever do everything you say." I teased back and pushed his head away. I stared down at my hands and let out air from my mouth quietly. "I need to find my parents. They're out there and I'll do anything to find them."
Marco took my hand in his and I felt my ears burn. He spoke, staring at me with hope in his brown eyes.
"I'm with you."
