"you mean you have never played Cricket before, like never even held a bat ", Ved asked Aarya as if it was the strangest thing in this world. Cricket was really important to him, he needed it like he needed oxygen.
"That's right about what I am saying, for like the fifth time in the last hour", Aarya replied not really interested in the conversation.
Her leg had almost healed after last night's rest but playing cricket was the last thing on her mind. Sports usually bored her. The closest she had ever come with sports was playing it on PlayStation. She didn't say it out loud though. The six friends had taken a walk to the lake and were planning on what to do next.
They all sat together under a wide deciduous tree . The sun's warmth reached the evergreen earth as it's children the plants were blossoming in the love being showered upon them in form of rain. The lake being illuminated by the sunlight . The morning dew embellishing the grass. The soft wind blowing which made their surroundings so soothing and peaceful.
"Cool then let's play cricket", Ved said with the eagerness of a five year old.
"I don't know how to play", Aarya replied now suddenly nervous. She wasn't that eager on playing besides what if she made a complete fool of herself in front of dev."I'll show you", Ved and Dev both spoke at the same moment.
"Why do you want to teach her dev?", Amit asked suddenly interested. Sports were not usually his kind of thing but today it was the most interesting thing ever."You play football, Ved plays cricket. You don't even like playing cricket. Ved is much better then you. He should teach Aarya. Why do you want to teach her. Is it because you carried her last evening. Do you like her. I mean you never liked cricket that much since the beginning", Amit started speaking at the speed of a bullet train, while the whole time dev stared at him as if he would murder him at that moment if he didn't stop.
Amit finally noticed his look and stopped dead in his voice. "Ok! Fine don't kill me just yet. You can show her".
"Whatever it's not like I am dying to play with her", dev said rolling his eyes, Although he wouldn't have let anyone else teach her.
"Of course you are not ", Ved said as he exchanged looks with Amit.
"Uh! Guys I am standing right next to you", Aarya quipped while they were discussing."Dev, Aarya is standing right next to you", Amit said laughing.
"I know she is standing beside me, can we just get this over with now", he replied rather irritated. They all took their positions. Aarya and Dev standing at the strike and Amit bowling at the other end.
Aarya's heart was trying to beat out of its chest while dev explained to her how to swing the bat."Okay! So you hold the bat like this", he said holding the bat, "and then you just swing it with all you got".
"See easy as a pie", dev said after he was finished showing her.
"Actually dev, you know making pie is hard because one time I tried and then I poured too much sugar and then I baked it raw but then i ended up...."
"Annie?".
"Yeah?", Aarya replied not sure what to say. Great, just great. Way to go Aarya you are talking about pie which you don't even Know how to make. She muttered to herself.
"What do you say , we focus over here?".
Before Aarya could reply , Ved shouted from the back."If you two love birds are done chirping, can we play?".
Sunaina stifled out a laugh as Aarya and Dev just stood there.
"We are not love birds".Dev got ready to bat ,with Aarya standing beside her.
"So, I will play the first ball and then you can try".
Come on dev , hit a six, Aarya is watching you. He thought to himself. Damn he had never been this nervous about playing cricket before. How could she make him feel this way?Amit threw the ball and well the result was quite the opposite of what he had hoped for. As the ball flew, swinging in mid air, it went straight past him and hit the wicket.
"See I told you pie is not easy, pie is hard", Aarya said laughing.
Dev just looked at her. How beautiful her smile was, it made her even more mesmerizing. When she laughed it wasn't just her lips. Every feature of her's smiled."You love teasing me, don't you?", He added after a second.
"Nothing gives me more pleasure jack", she replied winking at him.
