Jack Johnson's POV
I was sitting in the nurse’s office. Ms. Waverly had walked me into the boy’s change room and helped me clean up, she left after I plugged my nose with some tissue. I changed into my normal clothes and had to change the tissue out of my nose twice. I went back out to meet Ms. W but ten minutes had passed by and I was still bleeding when I removed the soaked tissue. She got worried and walked me to the in school klinic/nurse’s office.
The nurse had examined me and asked if I was diabetic, have an iron deficiency and from the ‘klinic’ perspective asked if I sexually active. I stuttered but it was a solid no to all of them.
She left and I was sitting holding my head over the sink with a paper towel poised under my chin. She couldn't find a reason why I was bleeding for an extended period of time and decided to just let me bleed out in case there was a clot in my nose. That worried me and she noticed then told me not to worry and that it sometimes happens when recovering from a sinus infection or from trauma to the head. A soccer ball to the face should do it.
“How are you doing Jack?” She asked as she entered the room again.
“Oh you know, just bleeding to death over your shiny little sink.” I say sarcastically with a subtle bit of flirtation in there.
The nurse is actually quite young and head turning even though she dresses conservatively. I can see why guys (girls too possibly) often come here asking for condoms and appointments even though they don’t seem to have use of them. That could just be me being cynical of them, though I don’t see a whole lot of couples in the lower grades.
“Oh it’s not that bad.” She says lifting my chin with her gloved finger.
“I still don’t believe you. It’s been half an hour since it started and only now it’s beginning to stop.” I say flatly with an air of sarcasm so I don’t offend her. I did bleed quite a bit though.
“You’ll be okay, you might feel light headed later so take it easy and make sure you eat a big lunch with plenty of fluids and some sweets. Try fruit or some yogurt.” She tells me tilting my head back and cleaning my upper lip with a damp paper towel. I hate the smell of latex and the feeling of wetness, it reminds me of the dentist.
“Okay.” I reply taking in the information and focusing on her fingers on my jaw.
“Okay, put this in your nose and you should be good to go for lunch now.” She says handing me a rolled up piece of gauze. I inserted it into my nose and she moved out of the way to let me out.
I made my way out of the exam room and was at the doorway leading back into the reality of school when the door opened and Jack entered. He noticed me and looked around the room a bit before focusing back on me. This is the first time either of us had visited the nurse’s office/klinic .
He approached me and grabbed my jaw with his hand and lifted it up to examine my face. I couldn't help but notice his fingers on me the way I noticed Nurse Jade’s, except the way he touched me was skin on warm skin while Jade's was cold and gloved.
“Hey you alright? You didn't come back to class. Waverly said you were here still.” He said not bothering to hide the worry written on his face.
“Oh Jack I forgot to give you these.” A voice called from behind followed by the clicking of heels coming closer.
Jack stared behind me and dropped his hands quickly and didn't bother looking back at me as he stepped beside me to greet Jade. I turned to see Jade walking towards us with a small paper bag in hand.
“Oh hello, you must be Jack’s friend. He’s okay but he might get dizzy so make sure to watch him.” She said smiling to greet Jack.
“Uh, okay thanks. My name’s jack.” He said not taking his eyes off her. I don’t know how to explain it but I felt slightly jealous. I mean I'm injured but he’s distracted by Jade.
