Jack Johnson’s POV
I was finally on the last question shortly after Jack and his parents went home and I was stumped on how to approach it. I would type up a line or two then just end up deleting it, feeling unsatisfied with how it would lead into my main idea. Which I didn’t even have. I had done the same thing writing on the hand-out then erased it again and again after a few words leaving faded letters staining my paper. After it was imminent that I was not going to get this answer going on a whim of writing words I moved to the computer.
My phone had vibrated shortly beside me on the desk, which sounded louder on wood. I already knew it was Jack. The only two chats I have listed in my outbox were my mom and Jack, sadly.
Jack#1: Hey whut did you get for the last Q?
Jack had changed his name to ‘Jack#1’ awhile back and I just ended up keeping it that way, even though I’m the older one. I did the same thing to his and added ‘<3’ at the end but I got scared he would think I’m weird so I changed to ‘Jaack’ instead. That might had been stepping a little far even for us.
I’m debating whether or not to answer him; it was obvious he was lying when he said he hadn’t done the assignment. Jack was a direct person and quite honest. Having known him so long I could see right through his lies easily. That and the fact he breezed right through helping me find all the answers online. Another text appeared.
Jack#1: Dude come on I know your up. Im dying over here.
Me: Idk how to even start it tbh. I just want to go to bed already - Delivered.
Apple came out with an update that included the new ‘iMessage’ people were excited about. Jack was more excited about it than I was, but all it did was turn the bubbles blue and told us if something was ‘delivered’ and if it was ‘read’ or not. I guess it’s cool since we both have iPhones. I upgraded first then he did too once he wanted to explore all the apps with MY phone. It took some saving up and begging for his parents to give him one. I got mine because we started a family plan. My brother Jeff and my mom opted for the Blackberry for that BBM feature. They were slightly disappointed when me and my dad got iPhones instead. They spent the next few days bragging about how they could see if the other person read their message and about their BBM bar codes and scanning.

Jack#1: Lets figure it out together then. FB chat
Me: k - Delivered
I tossed my phone onto my bed and logged on to Facebook and changed the online setting to ‘Appear Offline’ in case my parents were online then messaged Jack. He left his settings as online as we messaged each other back and forth trying to figure out how to answer the last question.
After a while I noticed he was formulating really good possible answers to the question, which only confirmed my suspicions the he had already completed the assignment and lied to me, but why? Was he trying not to offend me because I’m usually the one coming up with solutions while he procrastinates? (or procrastilaxing as he often says.)That didn’t seem right, so what does he hope to achieve by lying to help me when he could have just helped me point blank instead.
After I finished writing my answer down, I closed all the windows and turned the monitor off. Spinning around I stood up and just fell forward flatly onto my bed saying “Timber” as an afterthought.
Again my phone went off, vibrating somewhere around me. I don’t even know how it’s possible to lose your phone in your bed so easily, somehow it ended up in my blanket somewhere. It was Jack asking why I wasn’t responding to him on Facebook. I didn’t even say anything to him before getting off the computer. I craved sleep that bad. Another text, I was already squinting through blurry eyes to read his message.
