"Today you will all be getting partners. I have already assigned them so don't get too excited. The list is being passed around now." A murmur filled the class room as Mr. Pennington passed out a  piece of paper. What kind of group project would we have in European History. Mr. Pennington wrote a due date on the board. "Next Friday, each group will each present an Era that European nations went through. Your Eras will be chosen through a lottery, once you've found your partner, I advise that you sit together."

The list had finally reached my side. I was paired with a girl named Kim Barnes. Her name was unfamiliar, but obviously she was in this classroom somewhere. I remembered a few names and faces, and people remembered mine. I had even remembered Abercrombie and Bitch's name, Serena. I also knew that she hated my guts. She never failed to antagonize me, and I never failed to taunt her. The seat was still mine, and it was going to stay that way.

"Abby, right?" A girl of medium height came to take a seat beside me. She wore thick and heavy eyeliner and mascara which made her crystal blue eyes even more unsettling. A blue streak was placed right in the front of her thick dark hair. It was clearly a die job. I could see blonde threatening to sprout out. She had on a rock band tee with plaid pants with many pockets and buckles. Her nails were painted a glossy black, and she had a silver lip ring. I remembered seeing her around once or twice, but she was almost never in class.

Some might call me edgy, but this chic took edgy all the way across the ball park. I didn't want to jump to conclusions and call her Goth because I hated when people mistakend me for it. "Uh, yeah? Kim?"

She nodded and then slumped forward. "This is going to be hell."

You're telling me? I could already see that I was going to be the one doing most of the work. "Uh, yeah. Maybe."

"Like your shirt."

I looked down at my Fall Out Boy band v-neck and smiled. "Got it at a concert."

She nodded.  We both sat there for a few quiet moments. "Well this is fun."

"Yup." I said awkwardly. The bowl with the topics finally reached us.

Kim stuck her hand in and grabbed one, her metal bracelets clinking. "Huh, would you look at that." She said with a grin.

She handed me the small role and I unraveled it. Right there in small computer letters was our Era. "The Dark Ages. How ironic." I sighed. Perfect, this was just what I needed...not.
