(Quick lil a/n. If anything is in italics in the story it means they are using sign language. :)

Zoey looked in the mirror and sighed before reaching to her ears and taking out her hearing aids. It had been a year since she started going deaf and her doctors appointment today was to see if she had lost all of her hearing just yet.

She thought it was gone. Her hearing aids never helped at all and the inability to hear was taking its toll on her. All of her immediate family, the boys and their parents have all taken sign language classes with her last year when they found out it wasn't a disease or infection. She was extremely grateful for them and couldn't ask for better people.

She rarely ever spoke anymore. She only spoke when she had to. Elisa allowed her to be homeschooled for a year or two. She always met the boys after school and walked with them to the café. To Zoey's surprise none of the things that she was worried about happened. The only thing she worried about was crossing the street, or paying for things or ordering food.

Zoey placed her hearing aids in the black case before tucking it into her hoodie pocket that also had her phone. She turned around around adjusting her hair and left her room. She walked downstairs to see Michael, Daryl and her mom all sitting and what looked to be laughing.

She longed to hear their laughter again. She dreamed to and she missed it so much. Zoey took in a deep breath and blinked away the tears as she entered the kitchen.

"You ready?" Her mother signed to her and she nodded before walking over to the mat and putting on her shoes.

Michael came over and pulled on his shoes before tapping her shoulder. Zoey turned around to face Michael.

"The boys wanted to know if you wanted to come to a sleepover at Luke's tonight." Michael signed to the brunette and she smiled.

"Yeah. I need out of the house." Zoey signed back and Michael smiled and wrapped his arm around her neck and pulled her into a side hug before ruffling her hair. She gasped and pulled away before pouting and fixing her hair.

"You are a pain in my ass." Zoey signed to her brother and Macy came thumping down the stairs. She ran to Zoey and grabbed her attention.

"Can you sit beside me? Michael always steals my toys cause he's jealous of their hair." Macey signed to her big sister and this elicited a laugh from Zoey. Her family watched in happiness as they haven't heard Zo laugh in quite a while.

"Of course. And don't worry, Michael will always be jealous of their hair." Zoey teased Michael and she got slapped lightly on the shoulder and they all started laughed.

They left their household and got into the car that seated the five of them. Macey sat on the left, Zo in the middle and Michael on the right with Elisa and Daryl in the front.

"You guys can turn on the radio if you want." Zoey has tapped her mother's shoulder to grasp her attention.

Elisa and Daryl never really put on music anymore and it was Zoey's fault. They never blamed Zoey for it but they felt bad doing so. Music was how they met and it always put them in a good mood.

Elisa grabbed Zoey's hand and squeezed it before turning the radio on as Daryl pulled out of the driveway and began the thirty minute drive to her doctors.

Zoey leaned back into her seat and watched through the windshield at all the cars. She remembered the way you could hear the car softly rumble and the way you could hear the cars fly by causing a whooshing sound. Zoey remembered the way that some of her favourite songs sounded like and sometimes she tried to sing them but immediately fell silent because she could feel that she was singing but couldn't hear it.
