It's gone. Everything is gone. It started a while ago, we can't really remember, but it was just the little things. As the things they did because more frequent, that's when we started to notice.
The things they did weren't obvious. But as time passed, the village became a little less free-spirited. It grew colder and quieter.
I guess I should start from the beginning.
"Ace! Wait up!" I called out to my best friend, we were running through the street from an angry salesmen.
"Better catch up Rogue!" I could practically hear him smirking. He was about 5'11 with a naturally toned build but had long legs. Even now I knew he was holding back, he wanted to run faster, still. He's always waited for me.
I was a year younger than him at 15. I was only about 5'3 with a slim, almost lanky but not quite willowy, naturally toned build. I was always the "runt of the litter" I guess you could say, Ace was really the only one that actually didn't give a shit and actually talked to me.
I spurred myself forward a bit and finally caught up to him but to us this was really nothing. Ace looked over to me, glancing down for a second. "Nice to see you could catch up." His tone was playful but I knew I shouldn't have taken so long.
By now the man that was chasing us has given up. "Are we headed to the forest?" I asked Ace. A simple nod of his head answers my question. Knowing this I broke away from the path he's running. We never take the same route twice, we don't need anyone following us.
Even when we live in such an understanding place, some things are best kept as secrets.
I slow down to a light jog, to keep from looking out of place. Stoping by our "home" I grab a few things, not sure how long we'll be gone. Carefully placing everything into a sack, I leave.
Looking both ways, I hold my bag closer to me before I continued onward towards the forest. Just seeing it set my blood rushing through my veins and I picked up the place, as soon as I got to the tree line, some sense came over me and I whipped my head around to see if anyone was following, I couldn't see or smell anything so I turned back towards the trees and took off and relished in the feeling as the trees blurred past me.
"Woah!" I slid to a stop and ended in an almost defensive position as a giant black and white wolf leapt out in front of me, ears forwards and teeth barred. I smirked once I saw a familiar pair of ocean blue eyes that turned to more of an ice as it extended outwards towards the rim, they had silver cracks in them along with sky and ocean colored flecks that were spread across the iris like a night sky of stars. "Hey Ace." The wolf, actually Ace, puts on an expression in resemblance to a smirk.
Ace being as childish as he is, drops down into a playful stance. His hind end in the air, tail waging, his tongue hanging out of his mouth. A soft chuckle leaves my lips "Come on you big baby, we don't have time for games," even though I was happy my words came out stone cold. Right now wasn't a time to be foolish and I had to keep Ace focused, or we never get anywhere.
His eyes narrowed at me and a low, yet playful growl left his throat. My eyes narrowed and I crossed my arms. He immediately lunged forward... and licked me, before bolting off in a random direction. I stood there for a second and just whiped the slober off of my face, before I looked for the spark of energy that I kept in a giant ball under my ribs. I spread it outwards and my body shimmered before recollecting to form my wolf form.
My paws dig into the earth and helped me push myself forward, I weaved between the trees like a snake and was soon on top of Ace. I tackled him and sent us both tumbling to the ground. Ace excelled in Power and agility, however I excelled in speed and agility.
I leapt up to my feet and growled, keeping my face neutral but my hackles were slightly raised. Ace taking an almost identical pose, only he holds his head lower than mine and his fore-paws are placed precisely, he was going to win. Only because he's has more practice fighting than I do. My hope is that I can keep him on a run and tire him out, then his strength won't matter.
I don't want to do this right now, but if I don't Ace will be nearly impossible to control. I jump towards him, stoping short I swipe my paw across his cheek. Before he can react I turn and sprint off into the woods. He barks after me, hearing him I let out a small howl.
I weave through the trees keeps a pace that has Ace just behind me. If he's thinking like I know he his, he knows what I'm doing and will try to conserve his energy and won't run as fast as I want him to. I'll have to think of some other way to wear him out. Until I do I must keep running.
We've been running for a while now. I wonder how much more he can take, when I hear him fall. Loudly crashing through the under growth. I slow down and turn around, a glimmer of amusement passes through my eyes. Laying there with a mouth full of dirt is Ace back in human form. "It's not as funny as it looks Rouge." He says spitting the dirt out. I don't think I've ever seen him so serious.
"I didn't want to change back, it just happened, only the government has technology to do that. I tripped over a change wire. They shouldn't be this close to the village. No one should be this close."
I frowned and blinked, walking over to the wire, I sniffed it and felt a strange energy coursing through it. I growled and followed it, it moved slightly when I got closer to the Bush that it disappeared through. The smell of human hit my nose a second before the person jumped forward with a knife. I jumped back, startled, we were being surrounded. I pulled my lips back and shot my ears strait up and forwards a bit. I saw Ace below me, I sunk my teeth into is arm, he cried out in pain but I took off, rampaging through the forest while the sounds of the military disappeared behind me.
The buzz of a drone echoed above us as I tried to ignore Ace's attempts to get in my back. I finally just stopped and nudged him up there. "That fucking HURT!" I ignored him and focused on getting away. I sent all my power and concentration into my running. Ace gripped my scruff as I dodged the nets that were being thrown at us. I smelled the water up ahead and knew it was a river. I did a 180 and shot off towards it.
"Rogue..." I grew closer, "Rogue!" I reached the bank of the river and leapt over it before continuing again. I noticed a giant hole in the ground a few yards ahead and started slowing down. I walked down into it and stopped, Ace got off of me and I shifted back, bringing the energy back to the ball under my ribs.
