Re°birthed (Megumi × Seiji) ❤

"I'm home", he called out as he opened the door, still in a daze from the events of earlier. "Welcome back", his mother's voice echoed through the house. He nodded at the response and walked up the stairs to his room. He needed to figure out how to hide the giant bruise underneath his eye. He eyed the mirror in the hallway and laughed a little. It was way worse than he imagined. He looked over at the white fabric around his shoulder and then back at the bruise under his eye.

   Who was this girl? She could've killed him easily, but instead she only left his eye in a puffed mess and left a bleeding hole on his shoulder. It had also seemed she felt bad for injuring him. She had ripped the white cape on her back just to stop his shoulder from bleeding. He sat on his bed, shaking his head in frustration.

     He was supposed to kill her. She was supposed to be evil. She wasn't supposed to be so kind. She wasn't supposed to make him so happy. But she did. And it confused him. It made him slightly angry. He also felt guilty. He was engaged to Noroi; he shouldn't be thinking of another girl. Even if he knew Noroi didn't love him, and he wasn't sure he loved her either.

       Maybe he could love this 'Tsubaki' girl. Well maybe if they weren't supposed to kill each other. He mentally slapped himself. He shouldn't be thinking of her. He should be thinking of how to kill her. No that was wrong too. He eventually became exhausted with frustration and fell asleep.

   "Hurry up!! Come find me!!" a familiar voice  exclaimed, giggling in excitement. "Are you behind the tree again? You know that isn't a very good hiding spot", he responded with a sigh, "aren't we too old to be playing hide and seek anyways". "Hmm maybe~", she responded, still hidden. He rolled his eyes and ran over to the tree where the girl was hiding. "See? It's not a very good hiding spot if I find you this easily", he laughed sitting down next to her. "It's a good hiding spot if you want to be found", she responds, with her usual sweet smile. He blushed as the girl threw her arms around him. He hugged her back continued her happy giggling. "Is your mom doing okay?", he asked after a while. "N-no", she answered with a sad smile, "I-I don't know if she's going to be okay". "What's going to happen to you then?", he questioned sadly, his heart hurting to see her so sad. "I don't know...", she answered truthfully tears welling in her eyes. "I don't know", she said again between sobs. He couldn't respond. He just hugged her tightly as she continued crying. "M-my mom is- sh-she's going to", she choked on tears, unable to explain anything. Minutes passed and her tears had finally stopped. They remained still, just laying in each others arms under the tree she had tried to hide under. "Seiji?", she questioned. "What?", he answered not sure what she was going to say. "W-will you still love me? E-even if my mom dies?", she asked, her voice trembling a bit. "Why would that matter?", he asked in confusion. "B-because if that happens... It may take a while for me to be entirely happy again", she answered, unable to look at him. "That won't matter to me either", he responded, "I love you". "You promise?", she asked with a smile, holding out her pinky. "I promise", he responded rolling his eyes at her, but attaching his pinky to hers anyways.  "I love you too", she exclaimed hugging him tightly. He laughed and hugged her back, enjoying being with her.

      That happiness didn't last long though. Her mom did end up dying. And Megumi disappeared shortly after that. He never saw her again. He missed her smile. He missed how happy he was when she was there.

     "Come find me....."

       "Megumi?"
    
      "No er yes... Um kind of?"

      He rolled his eyes at her response; she was never good at hiding. 
  
      "I'm still here.... I-I promise"

      "No you're not..."
     
        "I-I am you've just given up on finding me..."

        He stayed quiet.
      
        "I understand if you don't want to find me anymore...."

        "No .... I"

        "I'm closer than you think..."

       "Then tell me where you are"

       "That would make it too easy"

    "Where are you?"

      "I'm...."

      "Onisan!!! What happened to your eye!!?" his little sister called out, waking him up from his weird dream. "It'll be okay", he responded calmly. He was still trying to figure out his dream and he really didn't want to worry his sister. "Does mom know?", Mao asked concerned. "No", he responded truthfully. "Are you going to hide it?", she asked. "I don't have any other choice", he answered.

    She walked into her room and came back with an eye patch. "Why do you have an eye patch?", he asked somewhat amused and somewhat annoyed. "Why not?", she responded handing it to him. He sighed. This was going to make him look  very suspicious. So much for hiding this from his mom. "Onisan!", she screamed from her room. "What?", he called back. "You're welcome", she yelled back. He rolled his eyes at his sister and laughed. He put the eye patch on. "I look ridiculous", he called to his sister. "I know! That parts for me!", she laughed back. He rolled his eyes and went back to his room, still trying to figure out the meaning of his dream. Megumi had been dead for at least 4 years. She wasn't here. Or maybe he really just wasn't looking hard enough....
