Alex's P.O.V.
I touched my high top fade as I realized I needed a haircut. I was waiting in the library with Dasha. We decided to use a public computer to avoid tracking. She was texting her boyfriend the whole time but was still alert. We were watching out to make sure nobody got a little too curious. I mean we weren't going to pick a fight but we could at least cause a distraction. I was bored so I decided to joke with her.
Alex: Hey! You got a man right here. Why you talking to him?
I could her Ty through the phone. He sounded annoyed and I chuckled to myself in enjoyment.
Ty: Who is that?
Dasha: Remember that new job I told you about? It's one of my foolish co-workers.
Ty: It better be.
Dasha: What?
Ty: Nothing, nothing.
Alex: Ha, she got you in check.
Ty: I see what you mean by foolish...
I could feel the steam shooting from my ears. Dasha was playing but, he was serious. I prepared my "speech" then reached out to grab the phone. Unfortunately, she had great reflexes and snatched it away. I muttered under my breath some angry words as I stalked away. I went to the children section even though I was obviously too old for it. I looked around to see if anybody was watching me. All I saw was little kids experiencing the so called "joy" of reading. However, we I glanced at the science fiction section I saw two men staring at me. They must be very bold because their glance didn't leave mine as we held eye contact. After about five seconds of wondering how much longer this would carry on they started to approach me. As I panicked unsure of what to do I pulled out my phone and tried to casually text Dasha.
Text:
Alex: Trouble! Children Section ASAP
Dasha: Fine. This better be serious.
That's when I realized how much I had annoyed her earlier. Oh well, this isn't exactly good time for a guilt trip. I decided to pretend the stare off hadn't meant anything and stared to play a game.
Man 1: Hello young man, do you need some help?
I stared at them curiously. They didn't seem to work here. They were up to something or else they wouldn't be faking jobs. Maybe they knew who I was. This was an issue because I had no idea who they were. Since they were lying I made up a lie too. Since me and Dasha look alike a little it was easy.
Alex: No, I'm waiting for my sister. We need to find some books little brother. However, there is no need for you to worry since I come here quite a lot.
Man 2: Well we never see you.
Alex: Then you are never here. I must come on your off days. You know now that I think about it how come I have never seen you here? There are plenty customers so it's easy to miss me but, there are only a few employees. That's weird.
Man 1: Well I don't know maybe...
However he didn't have enough time to finish his sentence before being cut off by his friend.
Man 2: Look at the time. Our shift is over. Well, since you don't need any help you better get going.
I mentally high-fived myself for getting rid of them and recording the whole thing. It was an audio version though so I still needed pictures. I snapped one of them walking away. Finally Dasha walked up. I glanced at her with annoyance and rolled my eyes.
Dasha: What?
Alex: What were you doing twenty seconds ago when I was being interrogated?
Dasha: What?
Alex: Are you a broken record is that all you can say?
Dasha: What? She added sarcastically.
Alex: Anyway. I rolled my eyes as I continued. I need you take pictures of them. No time to explain. Just pretend you are taking pictures of yourself or something.
Dasha: You are so confusing. You better explain yourself when this is finished.
She grumbled under her breath as she stomped away. I laughed at her pouting. She turned and gave me the evil eye. I almost feel on the floor when she ran straight into a pole. That had to be the highlight of my day. She sat at a table and pretended to take pictures of herself. I turned around and acted as if I was skimming through the books. I thought about how much of an airhead she looked like for a brief second. I took out the small mirror I packed in my supplies bag. We had lots of materials just in case. I put it on the shelf and turned it to see Dasha and the men. I watched as she swung her long black braids from side to side and started to blink her dark brown eyes. She pushed up her amber glasses and held her manicured hands over her mouth. She pulled her sweater over her hand and clutched her fist. I noticed them turn their heads and stare at her. Luckily from that point of view they couldn't see her phone. But they would notice if they paid close enough attention. We had enough to suffice anyway. I texted her to go to the historical fiction section then I said I would meet her there when the close was clear. She glanced at her phone then stood up and pretended to be on the phone. At first I was lost but then I realized she was masking her abrupt decision. Then she walked over to the empty history section to wait. Then I looked for a while more in the mirror to watch until the men were occupied. I had to wait 10 minutes. Then I left for my destination.
Dasha: Where were you? Sunny and Sophia are waiting in the car.
Alex: OK, let's go. I we have everything.
We walked out talking about random chatter until we approached the car. We got in and exchanged stories about our "research".
