jungkook didn't respond and looked to see raindrops trickling down the sheriff's room's window.

"taehyung. what's the situation at home?" he asked sternly.

"nothing, sheriff. I guess I'll just have to find my own-"

a call rang out and the sheriff snatched the phone from taehyung's hand.

"sorry, all calls are going to be tracked. this one's going to be on speaker."

"yeah whatever." taehyung said, watching along with jungkook as the sheriff's fingers glided against the phone's screen and clicked the speak phone.

"mum?"

"don't call me that. you're pathetic. never have I been more ashamed of calling you my son. who the hell do you think you are, going around killing people?"

"I didn't-"

"oh then explain why you're being investigated, taehyung?! first of all, you go and disgust your father by coming out the closet as bisexual. then this. stay out of my goddamn house, is that clear?! don't ever come back. go make out with boys, sleep with them, I. don't. care. you're a disgrace to this family. no wonder your friends keep leaving you. so don't come back."

"okay." was all that taehyung could choke out, tears streaming down his face, slowly but steadily.

"good riddance." were the last words that were heard before she cut the call, leaving the sheriff's mouth wide open and jungkook in a trance.

"taehyung, im sorry I..."

"save it, sheriff." taehyung wiped his tears clumsily with his left hand, getting even more upset at the fact that he had unwillingly come out to the sheriff.

"you're going to have to stay with jeon anyway." the sheriff said, and to taehyung's surprise, jungkook hadn't said anything since the call.

great. he probably hates me even more. thanks mom.

"hm." taehyung hummed in an agreeing tone, sniffling as the last of his tears cleared up.

"go home, kids." the sheriff sighed as he looked at the two mess ups, handing jungkook a spare umbrella.

---

holding the umbrella with his right hand, he proceeded to put his left hand into his pocket. there was enough space between the handcuffs to cover half a road, so it didn't affect taehyung.

still upset over how his mom blurted it out, he pushed his hair back, messing it up with both his hands, wetting the side of his sleeve in the rain as his body outgrew the border of the umbrella's shade.

"out of every fucking body, it had to be taehyung." jungkook said out loud sarcastically, kicking a stray stone on the ground.

taehyung didn't answer.

in all actuality, jungkook was actually a little affected by the sight of taehyung tearing up and crying. it showed how raw his emotions were. his throat had closed up on him when he had first heard that taehyung wasn't straight because of an event that had occurred which left taehyung broken. he didn't care, but his body told him otherwise. he didn't know how to express the fact that he felt a little bit of affection at that exact second for the boy, but nothing more than that time frame.

taehyung tripped a little and stood up straight, walking along a little slower than jungkook. it didn't matter because of the space between them.

"if you had just not brought your ass to that party, we'd be in a better place."

"no smartass, that would mean one of us getting into trouble. that wouldn't feed my ego well. if I go down, you go down with me." jungkook huffed out at taehyung's words.

taehyung liked the rain, so he didn't mind the fact that jungkook kept the umbrella.

he looked up at the clouds, grey shades overwhelmingly more prominent in the sky than any other colour.

"taehyung?" he heard an all too familiar voice that caused his breath to hitch and eyes to burn.

jimin.

"hey." he muttered.

"what the fuck, taehyung." jimin's eyes started to well up with water and he looked at taehyung's hands, eyebrows furrowed.

"fucking hell!" jungkook yelled as he fell onto the ground because taehyung had stopped abruptly.

"oh no. not him! taehyung, no." jimin shook his head in disbelief as he looked at jungkook's face.

"oh. you." jungkook said as he walked up to them.

"you know how bad it is when you two are around each other!" jimin whisper-yelled.

taehyung simply looked down at his shoes, which were spotted with wet dirt.

"I know. but luck just isn't on my side, jimin." taehyung explained, wiping jimin's tear that slid out of his right eye, with his thumb.

"what am I going to do ?"

"you can help me stay calm, best friend." taehyung smiled weakly, locking eyes with jimin.

"wouldn't miss that for the world. please don't get into a fight again." jimin choked out another sob and hugged taehyung suddenly, sobbing into his chest, and refusing to let go for a heart achingly long time, making taehyung's eyes burn again. tears fell out of his eyes as he held the shaking little jimin, whose tears wet his shirt more than the rain.

jungkook had been watching the entire thing, a slight pang hitting him somewhere in his heart. he ignored it and looked away, standing a good distance away from the emotional duo.

"jimin, stop crying, I can't take it." taehyung said in between sobs.

"im scared for you. and you're stuck with that jerk who hurt you every fucking day. how am I supposed to not cry?"

"I promise to be more calm jimin, I won't act on my anger."

"I doubt it tae, but im glad you can lie so well because I believe you." jimin said sadly, hugging taehyung one last time before he let go.

"school begins in a week. what are you going to do about this arrangement?"

"I honestly don't know, jiminie. I just hope we'll be let off before that period of time."

"me too, tae. call me if you ever need to calm down. im here 24/7." jimin placed a peck on his best friend's cheek and walked to his car.

---

jungkook cleared his throat.

"you dating him?"

"how does it bother you." taehyung said, the sentence coming out more like a statement rather than a question.

"doesn't. just asking because if y'all fuckin' make out, I need to be out of that room and these chains aren't exactly that thin so the door can't close-"

"I don't date." taehyung said plainly, shoving his hands into his pocket, looking straight ahead.

and somewhere, yet again, jungkook felt a pang.
