Chapter 8: January 20th, 2012 2:06PM
Usually I’m really excited for Fridays and for the weekend, but something was different this week. I wasn’t excited. It felt like something was holding me back from being excited, but what? Whatever it was, I had to let it go. The school day was over and now I could go home and relax. I reached for my backpack to grab my phone when I remembered that Mrs. Conneley took my phone in 6th period because I was listening to music. We weren’t doing anything in class anyways so why couldn’t I just enjoy myself? I hated teachers. I ran back into the building to get my phone back from her, but I was stopped by one of the administrators.
“Excuse me young lady, what do you think you are doing?” he asked. I swear these guys just liked wasting my time.
“I need to go get... an assignment from one of my teachers. It will only be a second.”
He then let me proceed on my way. Honestly what did he think I was going to do? Blow up the school? Please, don’t give me any ideas. I walked into Mrs. Conneley’s room and saw her sitting at her desk. She looked up at me and sighed.
“What do you need Bonnie?”
“Can I just have my phone?”
“I’m sorry but I can’t do that.”
“What are you talking about? You’re the one that took it. I need to call my mom to pick me up. I… missed my bus.”
“I’m afraid you’ll have to go to the office and call your mom from there. I gave your phone to the office like we are supposed to.”
“What? You’ve taken my phone plenty of times and you’ve never taken it to the office.”
“That’s exactly my point Bonnie. I’ve let you off the hook enough times. Now go take some responsibility for your mistakes.”
I rolled my eyes and turned around to walk out of the room. “Dickhead” I mumbled under my breath.
“What was that?” Mrs. Conneley asked.
“Have a GREAT weekend Mrs. Conneley.” I said sarcastically as I walked out of the room. I swung the door open and when I entered the hallway, I saw that I almost hit Daniel in the face with the door. My face turned red with embarrassment.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.” I said. I started laughing out of nervousness but once I saw that he was laughing to I just couldn’t contain myself.
“I’m glad you’re still here.” Daniel said.
“Why?”
“Will you come with me?”
“Where are you going?”
“My grandfather is being let out of the hospital and my mom is busy at work. Will you go with me to pick him up and bring him to my house?”
“Oh, yeah, of course. I almost forgot about that. Oh wait, I need to go do something first. Come with me.”
I grabbed his hand as I walked to the office. I saw Dolores sitting in the office, but I wasn’t exactly sure why. There was no one behind the desk so I snuck around the desk and opened all the drawers trying to find the bin where they kept all the phones and mp3 players. After opening the fourth drawer I found my phone. I put it in my pocket and Daniel and I ran out of the office. We went out into the parking lot and got into the car. It wasn’t a far drive to the hospital but it was awkwardly quiet in the car. My feelings for Daniel were getting stronger and stronger but I just didn’t know if he felt that way about me.
I hoped he did…
Daniel’s POV:
“DO IT NOW!” My brain kept screaming at me. Ever since Bonnie and I kissed at her holiday party, that’s been the only thing on my mind. She was perfect, way out of my league at least. There was no way she could like me back, at least not in the way I liked her. There was no way that I could make this car trip any less awkward than it already was. I didn’t want to say the wrong thing and totally creep her out, so I just kept my mouth shut. Why was it so hard to ask Bonnie out? I just had this inner feeling that she would say no. I guess I was just trying to save myself from the embarrassment. I’m gonna do it…
Sooner or later…
