"What do you mean they were attacked yesterday?!" Phoenix screamed, reading the letter a third time. As soon as he and Naomi got back, Garnet dropped the news on him. We were to leave for the Neutral City in just a couple hours.
"Just as the letter states, Phoenix." Garnet said, very annoyed. She shouldn't be stressing herself or the baby, so I tried to calm Phoenix by laying my hand on his back. He became less tense but yelled anyway.
"Sixteen men and women dressed in Muz robes killed several Muz soldiers. They burned Thanom into the side of the Frozen Palace."
"I thought you wrote a letter!" Phoenix said.
"I did! I wrote my brother a letter saying we have reason to believe he'll be under attack and he wrote me back saying that he had guards posted in full force!"
"Stop yelling at each other." Naomi growled, pulling herself off the couch. "It sounds like its no one's fault so stop."
Garnet and Phoenix glanced at each other, then slumped. Defeated wolves.
"Phoenix your carriage will be here in three hours. I suggest you and Fyre get ready."
"Thank you, Naomi." I said, looking at the two. Neither looked back at me, nor at each other. Phoenix just walked away, heading towards the closet.
"Garnet, this is Naomi." I said, lay a hand on her shoulder. "She's trying to find a portal to go Under the World. Can you help her as much as you can?" I asked.
She nodded.
"Will you let him know I'm sorry?" Garnet asked.
"Of course." I told her. She walked over and introduced herself To Naomi.
"It'll be a girl." I heard Naomi whisper.
"What?" I asked, turning towards her.
"Her child. It will be a girl. I can already tell by the way their blood merges together."
"How did you know I'm pregnant?" Garnet asked.
"I can sense it. I am a Blood Mage, after all. I'm always looking for forms of life."
"We'll be back up in a moment." I told them. I walked down to the closet to see Phoenix throwing clothes into a bag.
"Phoenix?" I said carefully.
"What?" He growled, not looking at me.
"Don't catch a tone with me." I growled back. "I just want to know why you're so angry about this."
"Because I fucking hate the Neutral City." He said. "I hate the uniform and I hate the meetings."
"So you took that out on Garnet?" I said.
He huffed.
"I didn't mean to do that. I know she's pregnant, and I forget that she shouldn't be stressing so I'll apologize to her."
"How'd you know she was pregnant?" I asked, walking over and trying to straighten out what he'd already placed in there.
"I heard you guys talking about it. Truth be told, I'm excited to be an Uncle."
"Godfather." I corrected.
"Ah. That part I didn't hear."
After his suitcase was packed, he kissed my forehead.
"I'm sorry for being an ass, Fyre. I love you."
"I love you too, Phoenix."
"Make sure you pack for about a week. Some nice dresses so you can sit in the meetings, and some casual clothes so I can show you around the city."
"And what do I wear to chase off your old whores?" I asked, giving him a wolfish grin.
He chuckled.
"You could wear nothing to do it and I would still laugh at you."
"Asshole." I whispered, smiling.
"The very best."
I dug through the clothes Phoenix and I bought for me over the last couple months and picked out my favorite dresses, and simple shirts and pants. I checked my cash and smiled at how much Phoenix was paying me.
I wanted to do some shopping.
After I was done, I yelled for Phoenix and only got rustling in return.
"Sorry. I have something for you."
He came to me, holding a black box.
"Will you be the one to open it?"
I took it from him. It was covered in velvet. It was too big to be a ring.
"What is this?" I asked, smelling the box.
"Just open it." He said, amused.
I stopped toying with it and opened up the box.
Inside it was a black metal crowd. Wire vines wrapped around the sides and came up around points that resembled mountains. They connected to purple and orange gems, that resembled flowers.
"Phoenix. This is beautiful." I said
"It's all yours." He said as he pulled it out of the box. He pushed my hair back as he placed the crown on my head.
"Fyre. I love you. And I want you to lead this Clan with me." I felt myself tear up a little.
"You want me to be Lady of Flame?" I asked, choking up a little. I told myself last night I would accept if he asked.
"Something better. I want you as my equal. I want you to be a Clan Mistress."
I smiled.
"You think I'm equal to you?"
He nodded.
"In every way. I know we've only known each other a couple months and been together for even less. But I know deep in my heart that I want this."
I wrapped my arms around him and pressed myself against him. He kissed me back with an energy that I looked forward to every time he brought his lips close.
"We'll do the ceremony while we're in the Neutral City. If Aspen doesn't need me or Jimmin for his, then we won't need him. We'll let Rebecca come as a witness."
"Okay." I said, smiling against his shoulder.
"Let's get going, Fireheart."
"Okay, Phoenix."
We grab our bags and make our way back upstairs where Garnet and Naomi are talking.
"And then when she was three, my little Veronica used to tell her father about the 'evil man' that lived in our basement."
Phoenix cleared his throat.
"Garnet. Naomi. May I present to you the Mistress of the Yong'in."
I smiled as Garnet and Naomi gazed at my crown.
Garnet stood and bowed at me.
"I am your officer, Mistress."
"Thank you, Garnet." I said.
"I guess you'll be doing the ceremony in the Neutral City?" Naomi asked.
"Yes." I replied. She nodded at me.
"Here's to a long and happy life, Fyre." She said, raising her hand.
"Thank you."
Phoenix pulled me towards the couch and sat next to Garnet.
"I'm very sorry I took my frustration out on you." he said. "I know you're pregnant, as well. I know you shouldn't be stressed."
"I accept your apology, Pheonix." Garnet said. "I'm also assuming you accept being a godfather."
He smiled.
"Imma be the best damn godfather ever."
They hugged each other, both saying they're sorry again.
"Now that that's out of the way, we need to nail down a plan when Fyre and I return from the Neutral City."
"Well." Said Naomi. "I will be looking for a portal in the mountains while you are gone. I can likely take Thanom on myself, but I ask you and Fyre to go with me."
"Of course." I said.
"I'll keep in touch with Aspen while you're away." Said Garnet. "He may try to start a war, and I will try my best to keep that from happening."
"That's good." Phoenix said. "Fyre and I are gonna sleep until the carriage gets here. Naomi, you're more than welcome to sleep here or the guest room. The guest room has less sunlight."
"I will go there, then." Naomi purred.
We all said goodbye, then Phoenix pulled me into the bedroom. We laid down, holding each other. Sleep came easily.
