Chapter 38

Naomi and I creep out of the room, not knowing if Thanom kept any guards up.

I didn't even know where Thanom slept.

We found our way into the kitchen, and to the hall where the Brothers slept.

"Should we get Yong'in or Phoenix first?" I whispered to Naomi.

"Phoenix. It'll be okay if we leave without Yong'in. I am not leaving without Phoenix."

So we quietly opened the door and down the steps to the cells below.

As we passed Jimmin and Martina, something in my heart thumped, and I found myself unlocking their doors.

"Woah woah woah." I heard Naomi whispering. "What are you doing?"

"They don't deserve to be here either." I whispered back. "Who knows what Thanom'll do to them when we're gone."

I hear Naomi growl, but she offers no more protest. I just hope the Shamol leaders sleep lightly, for I do not go inside and wake them up.

I do go inside Phoenix's room and wake him up when we get there.

"What? Fyre?" He says when I shake him lightly.

"Yes. Yes it's me." I say. I started tugging on his hands and whimpering. Wolf's ready to go.

"It's not tomorrow." He says as we leave the room.

"No. Thanom has been lying to me. He plans to make you the next sacrifice and he plans on doing it tonight. So we gotta go now."

Naomi motions for us to crouch down as we make it back into the hallway. We do so, watching Jimmin and Martina sneak into the hallway. I whisper a safe prayer to Broxly as they leave.

We wait a few minutes, then follow them. Instead of going back into the living room area, we head to the Brother's room.

"Yong'in?" I whisper, going into the room.

"Yong'in? Are you in here?"

"Fyre?" I hear a sleepy voice respond.

I don't smell Shamol or Muz in the room so I start pulling back curtains.

"Come on, Yong'in." I say, trying to pull him out of his bed.

"Fyre, sweetheart, the plan is tomorrow." He says, looking around the room.

"Where are my brothers?" He wonders out loud.

"I don't know. But we gotta go now." I say.

He looks at Naomi and Phoenix, who are waiting in the doorway. He nods his head, and the four of us walk down the hallway.

"It's been a while, Aunt Naomi." He whispers as we walk.

"Yong'in. You're looking well." She says. The conversation is cut short as Phoenix holds up his hands.

"I can smell Lea. And Aspen."

He peaks around the corner.

"Thanom is in there. What do we do?"

"Let me walk out there." Yong'in says. "He won't question why I am awake."

We watch quietly as Yong'in walks into the living room.

"Good evening, Thanom." Yong'in says.

"Good evening, Yong'in." Thanom says. He reguards Yong'in cooly.

"Are you going to introduce me?" Yong'in says, motioning at Lea.

"This is Lea. My daughter's future general. At the moment she takes care of my Father."
