A sharp, piercing stingy pain landed on her back.
She screamed in pain but that didn't make Abbu stop.
He trashed her with the whip until he have no more strength to beat her.
"And from today, I don't want to see anyone with you.
You must not take a single step out of this house.
Stupid girl. You want to tarnish my image huh?
Everyone out there is talking about you, how you jump from one man to another collecting money. What have I not done for you Yusrah?
I deny my other children what they want just to provide for you.
Just because I am poor doesn't mean you should disrespect my orders!!".
He panted and angrily stormed out of the room.
She lay on the floor, tears pooling out of her eyes. Her body was sour from the beating and it hurt so badly.
Ummi entered and when she saw her lying on the floor, she rushed to her and knelt in front of her.
"See what you have caused for yourself Yusrah. Baki jin magana. You are very stubborn.
Now just look at how your body is swollen".Ummi hissed, stood up and came back with a bowl containing water and a towel.
She cleaned the bruises and blew some duas (supplications) on it.
"Go to your room and sleep. Make sure you pray before sleeping".
Yusrah stood up sniffing. She dragged her feet lazily and went into the room she share with her siblings.
It is only La'eebah and sabeerah with her in the house now. Her brothers went to stay with an uncle in Kaduna.
Ameen, and two of her sisters were already married.
"Sorry Aunty Yusee".
Sabeerah said helping her sit on the mattress.
Laeebah was already asleep.
She sat down on her mattress wincing in pain.
She never thought her father could beat her like this. Its not that he never beat her, but today he beat her in anger, he whipped her mercilessly!
The thought made her shed more tears.
She lied down on her pillow wiping her tears.
Her phone vibrated from, under her pillow. It was a new number. She just hissed and turned away from the phone.
The phone rang again and she picked it up really angry and was ready the strangle the caller through the phone.
"Salam Alayki".
A soft, calm voice said through the phone.
She didn't know when heaved a relieving sigh when she heard Bilal's voice.
"Wa alikassalam".
"Already in bed?".
"No, getting ready".
She replied.
He kept quite for some seconds. She thought he hung up when he said;
"You should sleep, its late. I will see you tomorrow".
He said and hung up, not waiting for her to reply.
She sighed and smiled at her phone.
Everything about him is calm. The way he talk, he doesn't talk much, he walk slowly with an aura of pride and arrogance.
